Hi,
I just got my acceptance letter from HMI for fall 09 (4yr), and i was wondering if someone could tell me more about the actual student life on/around campus.
I'm in a bit of a unique situation, as I have a place I can stay in Lublin (grandparents still live in the city), and thus need to know if dorming for a year would be beneficial... making contacts, proximity to campus, etc... or if I should just give in and live with grandparents from the getgo (I have a strong inkling they'll insist I live with them unless I'm already locked into a dorm, thus I need to figure things out ASAP if I'm to keep them from making my choice for me). The HMI ppl said something about apartments with what sounded much like the apt I live in at UCI (4bdrm, 2bath, kitchen & living room for 4 girls, furnished), but I've noticed (and read) how HMI doesn't always deliver what it promises. I realize it won't be what we're used to stateside, but still would like to know what we're getting into. If anyone could tell me more about the actual dorm conditions/fees, that'd be great. Pictures if possible?
Also, what is the workload like? Is it one block of classes (like HS was for most of us), do all students take the same classes, or do we still have some flexability in class times/ schedules? Is it possible to do well and still have a life... maybe even travel a bit, or are we basically supposed to leave our social halves stateside when we board the plane to PL?
On the off chance someone knows, I was also curious if there's a good student club or outside dojo that practices karate (one not consisting of 99% 12 yr olds, and hopefully run by someone who knows what s/he's doing)? It's become quite ingrained into my life and is probably the one thing I fear I won't be able to find in Lublin.
