I spoke with a representative yesterday, and with good ol' Peggy today, but she did not want to name any hospitals over the phone.

So I was wondering, could someone who has been accepted (Robin or anyone else) do everyone a favor by posting the list of hospitals affiliated with AIM/Lodz in the Forum?
Actually, if you just email AIM asking for a list of all the affiliated hospitals, they will send you one right away. That's what I did.

2) LIST OF REQUIRED CLINICAL CORE & ELECTIVE ROTATIONS

The following is a list of Core and Elective Rotations, now required by the EU Medical Directives-Polish Ministry of Health as of Spring 2006. Please be aware of the fact that, in reading this list, MUL advises us that 40 HOURS = 1 WEEK:

CORES:

Internal Medicine 360 Hours/Exam (9 Weeks)

Family Medicine 160 Hours/Exam (4 Weeks)

General Surgery 360 Hours/Exam (9 Weeks)

Obstetrics & Gynecology 280 Hours/Exam (7 Weeks)

Pediatrics 360 Hours/Exam (9 Weeks)

Psychiatry 120 Hours/Exam (3 Weeks)

Radiology 80 Hours/Exam (2 Weeks)

REQUIRED ELECTIVES:

- Choose 3 of the following Rotations: Internal Medicine - General Surgery - Pediatrics - OB-GYN 160 Hours Each (4 Weeks) for a Total of 480 Hours/Exam (12 Weeks)

- Choose 1 of the following Rotations: Internal Medicine Subinternship or General Surgery Subinternship, or Pediatrics Subinternship 160 Hours/Exam (4 Weeks)

- Anesthesiology 80 Hours/Exam (2 Weeks)

- Dermatology 60 Hours/Exam (Should be equivalent to 2 Weeks)

- Emergency Medicine 60 Hours/Exam (2 Weeks)

- Forensic Medicine 50 Hours/Exam (Should be equivalent to 1 Week + 2 days)

- Infectious & Tropical Diseases 80 Hours/Exam (2 Weeks)

- Propedeutics of Dentistry 15 Hours/Exam (2 Days)

- Rehabilitation 30 Hours/Exam (1 Week)

- Traumatology 40 Hours/Exam (1 Week)

(Please take note of the 15 - 45 - 50 - 60-Hour Required Electives above.) If completed in the US or UK, it would be somewhat difficult to find US and UK Elective Rotations that are not computed in WEEKLY units of time Therefore, realistically speaking, it would be best to describe the length of a 15-Hour Rotation as being equivalent to 2 Days, a 30-Hour Rotation as being equivalent to 1 Week, a 45-Hour Rotation as being equivalent to 1 Week + 1 day, a 50-Hour Rotation as being equivalent to 1 Week + 2 days, and a 60-Hour Rotation being equivalent to 2 Weeks.

AIM/MUL requires that you complete your Core Clinical Rotations at their US, UK, or affiliated Polish Hospitals. However, this is not the case with Electives Rotations. Once Cores are completed, students may seek their own Electives Rotations at sites convenient to their needs. Tuition payments will remain the same, whether a rotation is arranged by AIM/MUL, or by the students themselves.

(Also please take note of the 3-Week Psychiatry Rotation. Most US State Medical Licensing Boards require 6 Weeks; therefore, our Psychiatry Rotation at Brentwood Hospital is for 6 Weeks. Please check with the State Medical Licensing Board of the state/states in which you desire to practice, to ascertain that state's specific Psychiatry rotation requirement.)

All students are individually responsible for checking with the State Medical Licensing Board of the states in which they desire to practice, to determine the rules and regulations of that particular state/states. Please be aware of the fact that the various states can, at any time, make changes to these rules. Therefore, what is relevant today, may be quite different six to seven years from now. Additionally, going online to a particular State Medical Licensing Board may not garner you the maximum information you desire. I suggest emailing them with your specific questions.

3) PREPARTION/REQUIREMENTS FOR US/UK CLINICAL ROTATIONS

All Medical Students who are completing their Basic Sciences in Poland are required by U.S. Hospitals to fulfill the following requirements in order to start U.S. & UK Clinical Rotations. If you decide to pursue your Clinical Rotations in Poland, you will NOT need to fulfill the requirements listed below. All of the information/forms requested below should be forwarded to:

Alliance Institute Of Medicine Empire State Building, 59th Floor
350 5th Avenue
New York, NY 10118

-Proof of passage of the USMLE Part I (where applicable). For example, St. Vincent's Medical Center requires Part I in order to start clinicals, whereas Epsom General Hospital does not. Please see No. 6 USMLE Section below, for additional information.

4) EXPECTED COSTS OF ROTATIONS

-All rotations completed in Poland - $9,950 per semester (includes Dorm Room)

-All rotations completed in U.S./UK - $600 per week. (Does not include housing)

-In some hospitals, students can receive reduced meal costs - other hospitals will charge full price for meals.

5) LIVING ARRANGEMENTS DURING THIRD AND FOURTH YEAR ROTATIONS

-Epsom General Hospital in the UK, provides subsidized housing, which includes a bedroom in a four-bedroom, 1-bath, kitchen (with washer/dryer) townhouse, approximately a 20-minute walk from the hospital. All students (medical/nursing, etc.) reside in this complex. The cost is $482 USD per month, which is paid directly to the Housing Coordinator each month.

-St. Vincent's Medical Center, Brentwood Psychiatric Institute, and St. ******* Hospital Medical Center do NOT provide student housing for international medical students. Shortly before a student is to start his/her rotations at any of these hospitals, I contact the Clinical Coordinator to request a list of local housing for medical students. The Clincal Coordinators are very familiar with the housing situation, and will forward me a copy of this list, which I will forward to the student. It usually consists of local two-family houses, in which a student, along with several other students, rents a bedroom, and has total access to the rest of the house. Some, but not all, of these houses are within walking distance to the hospital. Students are constantly moving in and out, and you get to meet and make friends with other international med students. Prices usually cost in the $300-$400 per month range.

-Memorial Hospital of South Bend, and Wheeling Hospital, both provide free housing for Med U of Lodz students, if they have the available space during a particular rotation period, where you will be living in a large house with either University of Indiana Medical School students or West Virginia University Medical School students.

6) USMLE

Please go onto www.ecfmg.org to ascertain all information you will need on the different STEPS & DATES of the USMLE, the CSA Test, ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service), and the NRMP (National Resident Match Program). The FAQ's on the Menu on the left is especially helpful. For example, the last date to apply for the Match Program is December 1. This is an important date for you to know.

The Toefl is no longer administered/nor required by the ECFMG, although invidual State Medical Licensing Boards may require it, at the time you apply for licensure.

It is not uncommon for students to take a semester off in order to study for their Boards. Many students also take a review course, such as Kaplan or the Pass Program. It is advisable that students answer as many Board-type questions as possible, upon completion of a specific review course. This will help greatly in testing your preparedness for the USMLE.

In the coming months of Fall 2007, AIM has a number of Core Clinical Rotations spots open in Family Practice, Psychiatry, and OB-GYN, at our affiliate hospitals, whereby the Departments involved have temporarily waived the passing of the USMLE Part I, in order to start these rotations. As long as the student has already signed up to take Part I, at a date in the future, they will be allowed to start the rotation. We are currently in the process of setting up the clinical schedule for the 2007-2008 academic year. Please contact me at 508-896-2227, as soon as you have completed final exams.

MUL students are NOT required to pass the USMLE in order to complete UK clinical rotations. Also, it is important to note that the few clinicals which cannot be completed in the US or UK, must be taken in Poland. Rotations such as Laboratory Diagnostics and Forensic Medicine are not conventional clinical rotations in the US, and would, therefore, not be available in US hospitals.

7) NBME SHELF EXAMS

Starting in the Fall 2006 Semester, the Med U of Lodz will initiate testing in all of the various Basic Science Courses, as well as a Comprehensive Basic Science Exam, through the NBME (National Board of Medical Examiners) SHELF Exams. These exams are so very important for students to take, in order to acquaint them with the format and style of testing of the USMLE, as well as the testing material itself. S tudents will be responsible for payment to MUL for all NBME exams taken while at MUL.

Subject Examination Program
The primary mission of the NBME Subject Examination Program is to serve medical education by providing high-quality assessment tools as well as information and assistance to medical educators.
NBME subject tests are achievement tests in a broad sense, requiring medical students to solve scientific and clinical problems. Although students' performance on the tests will reflect the learning specific to their course and clerkship experiences, their test scores will also reflect educational development resulting from the overall medical school experience. These tests are constructed to be appropriate for a broad range of curricular approaches and have at least four distinct advantages over locally constructed examinations in the assessment of student knowledge.

Thumbs up

I just got my acceptance today. I hope to meet you all there this coming fall

ps....the information provided by robinhoodfan is PRICELESS! Thanks so much man. I have done tons and tons of research on the subject now, and I am even good friends with someone who just got back for summer vacation from his first year in the 4 year program at Lodz. I think when it all boils down, based on all of the information I have collected, that Lodz is a great decision. However, anyone who is going to enroll to its program must be willing to work extremely hard, and plan/act extremely early on where they would like to complete their rotations. Ne ways, I cant wait to see you all there.

TTYS

I would also like to know about the tuition difference from AIM to the actual University. I am not sure if I have calculated it correctly but on the website for the University it says that it costs 10,000 Euro's/Year. I am assuming that includes accomodations.

Then on the AIM website, it says that it will cost 10,000 US/SEMESTER
Why are the AIM students being charged 10,000/Semester if the university itself charges its students who apply directly 10,000 for the entire YEAR???????? Please answer this if you know and I hope its not simply because they are able to set up the clinical rotations in the US.

Hi. I can't answer your question because I study at the other medical university in Poland. My friend studies there ( he applied directly ) so I know that the cost of living in the dorms is not included in this 10.000 Euro tuition fee. And it's also written at the website.
