To the ppl who have their interviews coming up!!!

I had my interview on April 5th at 8am local time. They called in 30 mins early while i was in the washroom; then they called again at the exact time that was scheduled. There were two ppl interviewing me, one a lady and other this gent.

The first thing they told me that don't be nervous and we wanna make u comfortable as we can which was great to hear. Here are the things they asked me...

Identify yourself? ( Your name, Social Insurance #, Your address, etc)
Why do you want to be a doctor?
What kinda doctor do you wanna be?
Why did you choose MUA?
What are your strengths?
Why are your grade low?

After i answered all the questions, the guy went through the whole process of MD (basics sciences, clinicals, residensy)

The he asked me if i had any questions. ( Make sure you have some questions for them to ask). so here are some of the questions i asked them.

How many seats are still availabe for may semester?
What should i do about accomodation...who should i call?
How is the crime rate on the island?
Finally, What is the next step in the process?

DO'S AND DON'T ON THE INTERVIEW:
I prepared all the questions before hand and had them written down on a paper in point form, just so i wouldn't miss out on anything that i wanted to say. I practiced those questions verbaly
Talk LOUD, CLEAR and SLOW.
Do not mumble
F**k being yourself cuz you can't be!
99% of the ppl who get interview get in...thats what i think...
Go in thinkin you're IN

About me
I'm from Surrey, BC, Canada. My gpa was low (less than a 3.00 on a 4.33 scale). so they didn't offer me admission straight into the basic science program but premed II. Which means that i have to do an extra semester to prove that i can do basic sciences. All i have to do is pull off a 3.00 gpa and i'm automatically into Basic Sciences in September. I think its fair enough and i can easily pull off a 3.00 gpa since i've done all the courses before and theres NO LABS FOR GOD SAKE!!

HERE I COME CLASS OF SEPTEMBER!!!! WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO

figure out what books you need first. you dont need all the books that are listed on the bookstore especially since you wont even have that much time to read them. the books are mostly there for reference since the teachers usually provide you with powerpoint notes. if ur starting med 1 then the netter and a histo atlas is a must but other books are really not that necessary. review books are good to have as well. you can get used books on amazon which i think is the best price overall cause even the students from previous semester dont necessarily sell them that cheap.

I disagree, it is very difficult to learn from disconnected facts like on a powerpoint, and you have to LEARN the material (remember USMLEs!), not just pass an individual professor's exam. It doesn't make sense to save a few hundred dollars on textbooks at the risk of thousands of dollars of repeat semesters (or flunking out!) Most people learn better from reading than from trying to memorize bullet point facts. If you are concerned about the accuracy of University Books on Line, check out the book list on the sgamua.com website. The student government keep it pretty straight.

9. Do I have any questions

- told me information about the school, USMLE pass rates, clinical, financial information.
- complimented me on my grades right away, asked me if i would finish the courses if provisionally accepted. Also complimented me on my answer regarding euthanasia. Bob told me " to have a good weekend and to --relax-- they'd mail out something as soon as possible or when he gets back to the office on tuesday"..

IS this good? am I accepted? I thought I had a good interview with SABA but they rejected me, so I was curious.

Hi...

So what was ur reply to the euthanasia?
Did you get in?
I've got an interview on the 28th of April '06...I'm sooo nervous...I really hope it goes well and I dont stumble on my words...

Any advice guys?

They will ask you what is your best quality: I was lost for a min when they asked me this so know ahead what you are going to say. As for the euthanasia question....have fun with that one.....I said I won't help the person because I believe in living until the end, a natural death (riding this B**** till the wheels fall off )
If you have no clinical experience good luck answering that also. But just remain clam.

Hey

Thank you very much Stookie...

Also...do they give everyone an interview or just the ones that have a chance of getting in? I mean i know, having an interview is not guaranteed admission,...but has anyone been rejected from MUA after the interview?

I'M SOOOOOOO NERVOUS...I'VE GOT A LOT RIDING ON THIS...I REALLY REALLY HOPE I GET IN...
