i was on the phone w/ a guy for 1hr today. he PMd me at VMD initially. we went over his essay, (it's near perfect now), then discussed the interview & presentation. I will 99% assure he gets in! (the 1% is cos his LORs weren't what i would have chosen, however i gave him tips to overcome that, but he has to follow them for them to work effectively!)
on the phone/in person is easiest for me, but here goes: ppl, know yourself! what made u want to become a doc? what has shapened you? what are ur strengths & weaknesses - and WHY?? - once you know yourself, you will HAVE confidence in what you do and who you are! i'm not going to go into my life (would be a fun book tho!), but everytime i was met with an obstacle (i had a LOT!), i overcame it and grew from it. DJ5 quick confidence booster (proven effective by 30+ppl now! and 30 is the generalization number in most experiments. however, if u've done it properly, u don't need a booster): read your personal statement, question it to the point you know why you wrote what you did. what questions will they ask you about it? answer those questions. don't rote memorize - understand! train ur brain!!! ask yourself the following questions and write them the answers: why do you want to be a doc? why now? what relevant/life experience do you possess that will make u more emphatic/effective? what UNRELATED experiences do u have that will help you? how? i'm not trying to get attention for myself; the sole reason i joined VMD was to learn what i wanted to know about MUA, but i saw that others knew even less then me and i believe in helping ppl. This isn't a "rat race", i'm not competing against you! i'm competing against myself! for every person that dislikes my views/attitude, a few others have said thanks and that they learnt something. i don't care about the thankyous, but the fact they learnt makes them more able to help others, and so on... to me, that is what doctors do. they don't bicker amongst themselves (shhhh! i'm an idealist!), they work together to solve problems. aii? anyhoos, that's my advice. anyone wanting any help, my schedule is pretty much open for the next 28 days! TC & good luck! DJ5 - "to thine own eyes be true!" Last edited by drdj5alive; 03-26-2006 at 06:59 PM. |

Tenka Taihei! (basically, feel relieved in peace & safety! R. Browning say it better tho: "All's right with the world!")
Nemo, the timing is not always on point - it is a business after all. read what i just wrote for the interview (different thread in MUA, "interview coming on monday"). Relax, know yourself, know ur personal statement (why, what, and WHY), and be confident. Do u want to be a doctor? are you sure? if you said "YES!!!!", then u'll be fine. show ur motivation , ambition, drive... bloody hell, am i a motivational speaker? ![]() anyway - u'll be ok. the only person against you is yourself! "to thine own eyes be true!" |

I just had my interview. It was okay. I froze at one point when they asked me about what is my best quality. They asked me the one question that I dreaded: If a patient came to you and was terminally ill and asked you to help end their life, would you??
I gave some pretty good answers too, the guy was like that's a good answer. I was surprised. I'm still a bit shaken but i'm recovering now!! |
