Any way all the best with your interview!
I'm sure you will do well!!
If you applied for September we could end up in the same class.
I believe they schedule interviews according to semster first perferance...so someone applying for may will get an interview earlier than someone applying for septemer class.

just my two cents

What are your personality qualities and characteristics? Do they match what one should expect of a physician? Can you think on your "feet"? Are you aware of the current issues facing medicine? Do you really know what the medical profession is about?, i.e. what is the typical day or week of a physician?

Your preparation should have already taken place before or at the same time you apply for admission. You should know why you want to become a physician. You should also know what some of the issues affecting medicine that you may face during your career. Giving well reasoned answers and having done an appropriate amount of research will show in the interview. The worst part of the interview for an applicant is being blindsided by an unexpected question. Most of the time though it is because the applicant didn't do an appropriate amount of research beforehand. Other questions to think about are how does managed health care affect the medical profession? or how can patients afford expensive drugs or other expensive aspects of health care? Again there are no right or wrong answers. The interviewers just want to know how you think?

You should know something about the island as you will be spending about 2 years there. This is true with any job interview. You should know something about the location you will be in!

Good luck, A_G
Well I know why i want to become a doctor. but I don't know what they are looking for in asking the quesiton? Is it to tell them personal experiance, or a general answer?

That is what I mean. What are they looking for in asking these question? what would constitute a good answer and what would constitute a bad answer?

Basically, what are the DON'T DOs in the interview, that is what I want to know

Dont tell them you want to be a doctor to be rich. I'm sure thats not the only reason one really wants to be a doctor anyway. But as mentioned above, just be yourself and positive...You'll be fine!

be hontest, brutal if need be

my essay explained almost everything. i have a good psych background, so i explained how i think & why.

i told them i wanted to be a doctor as i knew many doctors and half of them sickened me. they asked me to explain, i did (frankly, though non-profanely), and they basically said good luck & see u down there!

an old buddy applied about a year ago, lied about how it was his dream & he wanted to help people, & got in - incidentally, he never went as it was "too much pressure".

pre-med is pretty simple & easy to get into - as i was told by them! but it weeds out those who really want to be there & have the ability to be there. they will give most people a chance, just up to most people if they can get down.

if you really want it, it'll show! or you can lie, get in, and face your lie to yourself & fade away. the fact you are doing research online (i.e. here) shows me you are serious - just relax, be honest & it'll show.

i do not recommend making statements like i did, as i can talk myself into, and out of, any situation, via years of practice.
good luck!

Oh yeah - don't say it's just for the money! i said my reason for being a doctor was cos many doctors do it just for the money & it %&*&% (makes me angry). i told them what field i'm thinking, & (most importantly) what i plan to do to look after my patients!

Good luck! Don't worry and just be yourself!!!. The interview is very relaxed and I highly recommend going through the "Interview" thread which is posted as a sticky.

All the best!! You will be fine!

Hey Stookie,
I had my interview last week. You should not be very scared at all. They will try to ask you non relevant questions to get you to relax. I was nervous the first minutes (being nervous makes things very difficult) if you are relaxed you can answer all question.
Here is what you should do:
1.go to the interview thread to find our possible questions.
2.practice 3 or 4 questions you think may be in the interview (ie. Why do you want to be a doctor?)
3.Read more about the school and know all of your future plans
4.list things you want to emphasize about yourself
5.don't mention anything controversial during the interview
6.relax and answer question in a enthusiastic and friendly manner (Something I could not do!!!)

That is my advice, all the best!!

AB82, i don't agree with what you put as #5.

my interview was all about my essay, they just asked me why i wrote what i wrote. not sure what you mean by "controversial", but i wrote i didn't like the state of current medicine, mentioned examples, and gave them my opinions of what should change (IMO).
that got them interested (very), and as i knew what i said/meant it was not a problem., and the whole interview was a breeze.

my advice would be:
-don't think of the final consequences of what you say (asin entry/denial into medschool). (this WILL increase the pressure, making you more self-conscious, hesitant and more likely to "not think clearly" (mods told me to be nice!))
-stay on topic! iff (if and only if) you wander, make sure you wind back to make it relevant.
-know what they are looking for (intelligence, capability, somewhat independence (island life is hell;-P), (IMO) quick thinking, and (biggest?) desire/drive/fulfillment in medicine!)
-MUA is getting a lot more applicants/notice, they can be picky now. what do you have to offer? (future applicants - I said they basically neededme for XYZ reasons, to which they asked me to illustrate my statements - I did and they were loving it).
- (my personal fave, cos it's what i strive for) - confidence; know all your strong points & weak points. introspection/self knowledge, whatever, 'sall semantics - know yourself enough to be able to answer confidently!!! in hiring; many approaches consider severe hesitation (at the wrong time) as a factor for not getting hired. however, they WILL give you time to answer during the interview, but u have to use that time to think of something good! if u know urself, u sound great sooner.

So...
RELAX & have Confidence in yourself, abilities and desire to become an MD!

PS - for anyone not yet applied, i'm offering essay tips/checking. (cos i'm a nice guy, once u get past the kinks!)
not cos i have nothing else to do (i was born multitasking), but cos 2 ppl asked me for help and one suggested i start a thread on advice as he did so well.
well, i don't want another thread in my name, and am very hands on in tutoring so PM if ur interested!
