    New Applicant seeking advise

I have applied to MUA and Saba for Sept 2012 with a 2.7 GPA and 18P on MCAT. I have not heard back from either.
I have strong letters, all prereqs, good undergrad thesis, good clinical volunteering and solid extracurrics. Any advise if I'm turned down?

I got in to MUA with stats that were just a little above yours, but Sept. is (from what I was told) the most difficult start period to get in to. If you are turned down, the only thing I can recommend is asking to talk with the admissions department to find out where you can improve. My feeling is that they'd tell you to take the MCAT again, but you should know that the MCAT is a terrible predictor of how you'll score in med school.

    Regardless, good luck!

How long ago did you apply? If they are interested in you they should send you an email to set up an interview. I know that's what MUA did for me. You're GPA for MUA would be fine in all honesty but since your MCAT score isnt even in the 20's I'd think that's what gonna hurt ya the most at this point. Definitely for SABA chances are you will not get in. Actually almost 100% certain you wont get in with those scores for SABA. MUA may offer you the pre-med track if they don't offer you the MED. And yeah September is the most competitive because you have students who just finished undergrad for the most part all applying to med school where as the people who apply for Jan and May have either finished school right before or were doing something prior to applying. You would get into UMHS or Windsor for sure 100% which is just the island next door to MUA. Goodluck! If you have time to kill I'd suggest spending some time studying for your MCAT and bring that score up and apply to a med school or DO school in the states. There are so many new med schools opening up in the states who's MCAT and GPA score arent as high as the very competitive ones so its better attending one of those than going to Caribbean school in all honesty.

Hi! By most competitive, I mean it is the semester where more students will apply for admission, so the criteria may be a little higher for admission. This is generally because September is the same time that US schools start. I started in January, and I don't regret it at all.

I can't speak for getting residency, because I haven't gone through it yet!

I can say that your undergrad stats don't matter once you are in med school. Everyone is on an equal playing field. If we were going by my undergrad GPA and MCAT score, I should have failed out within the first week. It's all about how hard (and smart) you study the material when you get down here. If you are motivated, you will succeed.

    Thank you, All.
I just went through five years of undergrad and wish to avoid premed. Since I'm not a U.S. citizen, I feel I might be at a disadvantage applying to mainland schools given my stats. Caribbean schools appear to more accepting.
sram- say i get bumped to Jan, what are some of the things I could do to further prepare myself for MUA? (courses, activities, etc).

The Sept 2012 semester is competitive at most caribbean schools. Apply for the Jan 2013 semester. Less students apply during these semesters. If your spare time work in the medical field & volunteer at a healthcare facility to enhance your application
