    Ed-Invest? Or MD/MBA?

Please, could someone with the experience tell me how the Ed-Invest loan worked out for you or MUA grads you know? Or if MD/MBA option is very feasible for MUA students?

I know MUA Admin. is applying for Federal Direct and similar federal loans. I know from undergrad experience, Federal Direct either subsidized for all interests accrued or did not charge a high % rate to begin with.

    EDINVEST and Davenport MBA

My suggestion to you is to take EDINVEST for the first semester (so you can have time to acclimate to the island and med school classes). Then, from semester two, do the Davenport MBA but only one class per semester. This is because the classes are 7 weeks long so you only have extra work at the beginning of the semester and your MBA class will be done by the time your shelf exams for med school rolls around. Good Luck!

All Caribbean schools have 10 semesters, so does MUA, and I've lots of semesters coming ahead. Just trying to gather ideas to pay for MUA med school.

I scrambled enough $ to pay 1st semester out-of-pocket, w/ personal check. Paid it on Nov 30. MUA's relatively cheap, but only enough for me to do it short while. Then loans. Undergrad experiences show: studying full-time and working at least half-time is nearly impossible. GPA suffered.

Earning MBA while attending MUA, GPA at both may suffer. If I only study MD, I can get as close to 4.0 as possible and do best for USMLE. Cost-benefit analysis doesn't seem to promise best results.

I hear from St. Matthews (Cayman) and MUA-Nevis (apparently only Saba, MUA & SMU have Davenport option): Reason to do MD/MBA is to get federal loans, but the U.S. gov WON'T fork over enough loans to cover tuitions at both MUA and Davenport U. They mumble about how much loans they'll get. What's the max I can get? My parents and I have great credit scores. I still owe Federal Direct $14,000 from undergrad. I can pay $14,000 off by year 1 of residency.

Davenport MBA plan sounds like "Robbing Peter to pay Paul." Or "robbing" gov, to pay Peter AND Paul. Why not just paying "Paul" only?

hey shoushu, have u gotten the ed-invest loan yet? and if u did, did it work out 4 u? im also applying 4 ed-invest 4 the may 2011 semester and i just wanted 2 see it will work out in the end. i've been trying 2 find other private loan options tho 4 us students, but it seems merely impossible since most dont offer it 4 foreign schools or at least MUA is never on the 'list' of schools. sigh... hopefully it works out 4 all of us. tc n gluck this semester! thanx

I would NOT do Ed-Invest. I am a Med4 at MUA now and am doing Davenport, it is definitely doable. Ed-Invest is a crippling loan, if you look at the details of the contract for every 10k you borrow, you will end up paying 43k in the end with the interest added on. It is literally a shark's loan, any way you can stay away from it...I would.

Glad to hear you are at MUA. I was there too. I am currently trying to figure a loan for clinicals. Can you tell me how much you get and how that is used towards your mua fees as well as your davenport fees. Thank you.

Hello shora2010, thanks for your comment...... please can you specify but what you mean Davenport is "doable" -- as in the Loans you get from it is enough for both Davenport & MUA -- thanks I appreciate your input
