Reminder for 2006 Match Applicants

Its that time of year again...

This is a reminder for any of you applying to the 2006 Match. You need to write a formal request to MUA for a Dean's Letter and send it to the school either via Mail or Fax. You may not submit this request via email.

Contact the school for further questions in regards to the Dean's Letter.

Also remember you must have Step 2 CS completed by Dec 31. If you are not registered, register immediately as the dates that are now available at all the centers are in the month of December.

For the match you will need to get a token via the ECFMG/OASIS. Cost $75. See http://www.ecfmg.org for more details.

Good Luck.

edited for dates..

hi

Besides reccommendation letters, what else do we need to send ecfmg? I know the school sends the dean's letter. Thanks in advance.

with ur documents u have to include Document Submission forms.. see

http://www.ecfmg.org/eras/docform.html

on the back of whatever ur sending i would also write your ECFMG number, AAMC number and what the document is.. Ie transcript, Dr. Smith reference letter etc.. etc..

stuff u want to send into ecfmg includes

Letters of reference
Transcript (get one on plain white paper from the school it scans in better than an "official" transcript)
+/- color picture.. dont have to send one in.. if u do, just so you know programs wont be able to see ur pic till after they give you a interview..

if u havent taken step 2 already then u might want to consider not checking off automatically transmit usmle transcript..
this way you will get ur step 2 scores before the program does and then u can manually go back and transmit your usmle transcript (no cost difference)..
otherwise if u have it set up on automatic.. programs will get your scores about a week before you do.....

cant think of anything else at the moment..

question about application process

1. When do we register with nrmp? And do wedo it through ecfmg or directly on their website?

2. When you get your token, does ecfmg mail you anything? Or is everything done online?

3. So basically all we need to do is complete the myeras application, mail our recs, transcripts, photo, personal statement to ecfmg? Is that it, or am i missing something?

thanks for the help

1. When do we register with nrmp? And do wedo it through ecfmg or directly on their website?

Can register for NRMP anytime after August 15, but well before Feb 22nd deadline of late registeration... basically it amounts to paying the fee (less than 100$) you will not use the NRMP site until u start working on ur Match Rank list.. might want to register for it now.. so that u can spread out the match cost .. pay for it now so u arent paying for it AND the fees to apply to programs and interview travel costs all at the same time...

you go to https://services.nrmp.org/R3/Registr...086F06A910CB83
or alternately http://www.nrmp.org click Register/Login then click Applicant registration on the left under login..

then choose NRMP Main Residency Match (option not avail yet cuz cant do it till Aug 15.. other fellowship matches are listed there too.. but not applicable to you yet)

U will have to then enter your AAMC number from MyEras.

2. When you get your token, does ecfmg mail you anything? Or is everything done online?

No ECFMG doesnt mail you anything. everything is online. You only use ur token ONCE and thats to register with MyEras.. you will be assigned a AAMC number and from that point onwards thats the only number u will be using, for ERAS and for NRMP.

3. So basically all we need to do is complete the myeras application, mail our recs, transcripts, photo, personal statement to ecfmg? Is that it, or am i missing something?

Thats correct.
You mail ur recs, transcripts to ECFMG. Make sure u print out the document submission form that u send with each document u are mailing in (can be found http://www.ecfmg.org/eras/docform.html ) this identifies what you are mailing in... send this stuff in asap.. as it gets closer to the time when u are able to apply to programs it takes ECFMG longer and longer to scan in ur documents.. i sent one extra rec in in sept just as backup and it took them almost 10 weeks to get it scanned in... so something to look out for...
If u dont have all ur paperwork.. send in what u have.. and rest of it can be sent later.. some programs will offer u interviews even if u are missing one ref letter.. also ur transcript make sure its printed on plain white paper.. scans in much better than the official version...

You complete ur CV and application online with ERAS, remember once u submit/certify the Common Applicaiton Form (CAF) you cannot make any changes to it.

Your personal statement you can copy and paste onto Eras too, under my documents I think. You can actually make up several PS, for different specialities,. or if u want to send a personalized PS to each program (ie if u mention the name of the hospitla/University in ur PS..) When applying to diff programs ull be given a box to check off to choose which personal statement to send to which program...

And also remember about USMLE score reporting.. if u havent taken step 2 yet.. u can opt to choose manual transmission (what I did) so that you get ur step 2 scores before the programs do, other wise programs will have ur scores one week before you do.. if u choose manual transmission u can choose to not send em updated scores if u end up doing not so hot until after ur interviews... this is an option u cannot change once u select it..
With manual transmission all u have to do is once u get ur scores go back to that screen and click retransmit USMLE transcript, just have to do this once and will get sent to all the programs and doesnt cost any extra money.. so something to think about..

let me know if u need help with anything else or want to bounce some ideas off of me.. would be more than happy to help.. ur more than welcome to PM me.
