Thread: MUA Name Change

I'm not an MUA student but i've always wondered why the people that started the school chose the name ''Medical University of The Americas''.

Someone else mentioned it the other day. Why not University of the Americas, Medical School? That way if you decide to add a nursing, vet, biological sciences or anything other than medicine in the future, the school wont look silly and have to change its name. The current name is kinda limiting don't you think.? I guess they forgot that the school may grow one day and not just manufacture MD's

I've got some suggestions
University of the Americas (Medical School or College of Medicine)
University of Nevis (Medical School or College of Medicine)

lol nice thought...but are we a little bored or procrastinating? I hope this wasn't something you have been waiting to get off of your chest for a while now...

This was started as a franchise medical school - same name in another country. That one is dead. This one limps a long.

it won't change so discussions about a name change is pointless. When on the island we came up with a bunch of names that made the name of the school not sound so generic like "superstar medical school" or "medical university and scuba diving"... you get the point.

I'm thinking of applying to MUA but that name really is lame. Its like calling a school Banking University of Asia or Nursing School of the Africas.
I can imagine the residency directors cracking jokes about it, I guess thats where our step scores have to be hot

I like "Moo-ah". Don't count on the name changing.

All the attendings I know refer to it as MUA, as do the students...not a biggie....lame it is however, I agree if you spell it or take the time to enunciate it....which few ever do in the hospital. When people ask where you went to school I just say MUA, West Indies. FWIW There are plenty of other things that concern me more than the name to be honest. Concentrate on learning medicine and the name aint a biggie ...some of the Uni's in India sound kinda weird too as do the Russian ones. I asked a Chinese resident where she studied and she had to repeat the name three times....still dont remember it. So relax...MUA aint that bad.

actually, no one cracks jokes about the school's name. I think students care more about the school's name than anyone else.
