    NY approval....

So, I read on the forums about how MUA and AUA are really not much better then schools such as St. E, spartan, windsor, xavier, etc....The ONLY thing that sets MUA and AUA apart from the lower tier schools is the NY approval, which is NOT a big deal....I was under the impression that NY approval IS a big deal, and that the best thing to do is apply to schools in this order: big 4> MUA>AUA> other schools.

but iv seen something like this a few times in forums: big 4> MUA, AUA, and other schools. (ppl putting mua, aua, all other schoosl on same boat).

I know that questions like these are all subjective but I wanted to know what you folks think.

    objective feedback appreciated. thanks.

you are kidding right ...i mean c'mon how many more times....you want objective feedback, but admit you READ the subjective feedback. If you can't see the reality of NY approval then puhleeeze go to one of those un-approved or lack of approval schools.

think what you are asking JDoc.....how is more than 12 weeks of rotations and ability to do residency in the most IMG friendly and state with the most residencies ...not important.

I UNDERSTAND its important. but others have argued that its not. it BAFFLES me that people who ARE CURRENTLY in NY approved schools have said this.

I guess il reword my question: WHAT could these people POSSIBLY be thinking By saying NY approval is not a big deal. What do you think is their reasoning?

is that better for you joe?

Jersey....how could anyone know what these people are thinking? Rather look at the data than what people are saying.

Do you plan to rotate in NY? Do you plan to do a residency in NY? Then this is important, if you dont plan to compete for these slots then i guess its not important. You are taking away potential spots come residency.

If the school cant make NY approval then ask yourself why is that, is it that they are unable to achieve it due to a lack in their program, facilities or faculty.

Track record of the school = open doors = residency

Going to a school with external US approval means something, it means a lot more than you think. Who knows what the US decides one day ie. allowing only US approved schools in the match one day....do you want to be the one risking that?

    Hello

    Hi,
The NY city is a nice place to stay. There are many new areas to see. This makes the new visitors a good entertainment.

    thats awesome...

    anyways....Soap & Joisey...you guys having a lover's quarrel?
@J: NY approval is DEFINITELY important...and not that difficult to attain...thus schools that haven't gone after it or have not been approved, you got to seriously wonder about their quality of education/resources.

but the key is residency...this whole game is about attaining residency...so do you seriously want to cut out a state that has the most residencies?
thats why i put MUA > AUA...although AUA has more money...more clinical spots in NYC, its very young and their match list is not nearly as impressive as MUA...

at least thats how i judge schools...

NY has the second largest no. of residency spots in US I think, after California. It is very IMG friendly, most of the big states are making it tougher and tougher for IMGs, NY is actually accomadating. A hospital like Albany has residents from SGU, AUC, MUA, AUA, Ross, etc all the NY schools. It has a good number of green hospitals/programs and is close to home for you Jersey girl and for many Canadians. These people who say it's not a big deal are deluded by their own schools into thinking they can do residency there.

You make the choice, with the increase in US Schools enrollment would you really want to say goodbye to an IMG friendly state with probably the 2nd highest number of residency positions? As I have said before do your research before posting, this is a skill you need to develop because no matter where you go you to school, you will have a tonne of documentation to complete while studying and doing rounds and you can't keep asking people questions based off hearsay.

thanks for the feedback. i did my share of research which is why I decided to apply to MUA in the first place...i didnt apply blindly. i am aware of the pros and cons of offshore med schools, and i do understand ny approval to be a big plus.

it was just the first time ever that i had seen a few ppl posting that ny approval was inconsequential, people who themselves go to ny approved schools. thought that was strange.

    thanks again.
