hey..the power does go out every now and then. But if you are living at the dorms then you should be fine because there is a backup generator here and the power will come back right away. The school has its own generator too. But I would get a battery lamp just for the future incase you decide to live elsewhere. Hope this helps!

Like almost everything here in Nevis, the power outages are unpredictable as to when they happen. This semester, there have been lots of them, almost averaging at least one outage daily where I live. Usually though, it doesn't stay out for more than 2 hours at a time.

However, you will have generator backup in the dorms thus no problems there.

sorry to change the topic a little bit...but do we need travel adapters for electronics or are the outlets, North American outlets?

Power

Most places that you will rent on Nevis has 110 power and American style outlets, although some places have both 110 and 220 outlets. Power outages are an occaisional annoyance (although as pointed out earlier some places like the dorms and the school have generators). Surge protectors are always a good idea.

A surge protector is good, but it only protects your electronic devices from power surges (which do happen).

A UPC backup is a surge protector and a batter backup all in one. It protects from surges, plus gives you some batter backup, so if you do lose power, you don't lose what you were working on/crash your computer/etc. Check out this link for a better idea: Ultra ULT31502 1000 VA 600 Watt AVR Backup System UPS at TigerDirect.com
