What do most students do for banking? Is it neccessary to open a local account? Or will withdrawing from an ATM & keeping our account here in the states be sufficient?

510 points Some students do have a local bank account and I guess that is more convenient for them to withdraw cash without paying the extra atm fees, cashing checks etc.. However, I dont have a local bank account and I have been fine. I just withdraw money from the atm through my bank acct at home. I manage my bank account through the internet. I have been completely fine without a local bank account but its up to you. Hope this helps!
Thanks dream. How much fees do you pay to withdraw from an atm in nevis? think i read somewhere that if you have a bank of america account, you can withdraw from nova scotia bank atm w/o fees, not sure.
510 points I believe that its around 3 dollars U.S. per withdrawal. Im not sure about the bank of america account association with nova scotia but if that is true then that is great! Also, the atms dispense E.C and so 100 E.C. is roughly $37 U.S. just an extra fact...=)
I use my Bank of America ATM card, at first i got charged but lately i havnt been charged when i use it at Scotia Bank. The airport ATM still charges you for withdrawal.
510 points so they disburse all the loan money to the US bank?
