I am curious to whether a persons MCAT score is a reflection on performance to be expected on the USMLE (both standardized tests). I know anything is possible, but I would be interested to hear people perspective on this.

510 points It might reflect minimally how well someone "takes tests", but the subject content are vastly different. No amount of being a "good test taker" will make up for a lack of knowledge, but being a "poor test taker" may well make it more difficult. Having said that, medicine is a profession which demands a high degree of ability to demonstrate proficiency of knowledge through the use of multiple choice type examinations.
I am not sure of a study which looks at both, and would not be sure I would believe the results if there were such a study.
510 points i remember reading somewhere that those who do well on mcats do well on their Step1 but those who have good GPA in undergrad do well on their Step 2. Not sure where I read it though.
