Can anyone advise on whether the internet on the island is DSL (phone) or Cable Internet?

They actually both here in the island.

Carib Cable, offers cable internet.
Cable and Wireless offers DSL internet.

Is there one where people have had better experiences? What's the cost for each one?

DSL is a little faster, but their service sucks. I signed up for DSL at the beginning of my second semester and they did not get the phone line hooked up til the last week of the semester. They did not bring the modem too. That meant I had to wait til I get back from the break to have actual internet. So I switched to cable. Latency with cable internet is a bit slow compared to DSL. but it works just fine.

I dunno much about the prices for the actual subscription as they come in packages depending on the bandwidth package you will subscribe for.

DSL (Cable and wireless) is a much better service. but they will take absolutely forever to come out. you have to call and call and call. they did the same thing with me, they came and activated the line , but no modem. they actually came within one week of my signing up with them.
a week later, i just went to them, asked for a modem and told them i can do it myself...voila i was up and running.
Carib cable is more expensive, and DOES NOT allow P2P sharing!!!
VoIP also works much much better with DSL.

p2p works just fine on my cable connection. Only prob is my latency....
