Why not check Houma on the ACGME website and see what residency programs they have there?

I checked the ACGME website today...

...I can't find where Houma is listed anywhere as being accredited.

You have to look up Louisiana State University programs on the ACGME public access programs website. The LSU residency programs run out of New Orleans include Leonard J. Chabert Hospital in Houma as one of the Major Participating Institutions in the LSU residency programs. Therefore this hospital is considered "greenbook". You need to do a little more research other than looking up Houma or Chabert on the database. You need to find out if the hospital is a participating institution in a university or another institution's residency program, i.e. dig deeper!! This means that Houma or Chabert Hospital has many clerkships that are "greenbook". I checked on the cores and found that only Internal Medicine and Family Medicine are "greenbook" at Chabert Hospital in Houma. Other "greenbook" example residencies are Emergency Medicine, Neurology and Radiology. There are many others but I chose these three. Pediatrics, Ob/Gyn, Psychiatry and General Surgery are not "greenbook" at Chabert Hospital according to the ACGME database for public access.

    Greenbook

It is hard to research and find what is and what is not greenbook.

    This is what I know.

Surgery is greenbook out of Oschner
OB/GYN is greenbook out of Oschner
Pediatrics has had residents out of LSU
Psychiatry has residents scheduled to come this year from LSU
    (changing from non-greenbook to greenbook)
    Internal Medicine is greenbook
    Emergency Medicine is greenbook
Radiology has had residents but the program has shut down after the storm
Neurology currently has residents and is greenbook
Ortho has residents and is greenbook
    Family Medicine is greenbook

Chabert gets residents from Oschner, New Orleans and LSU.

What I can tell you is that I have done all my rotations core and elective at Chabert Medical Center. Most of the time, if there is a resident there representing and doing rotations in that department, then it is greenbook.

    Hey
I stand corrected. I didn't think to look at Oschner! Anyway, I also found out that Internal Medicine is not only out of LSU but also Oschner. Also, there is a large Anesthesiology residency program out of Oschner, too.

    greenbook

I don't recall seeing any residents.....but told they rotate through. However, I think greenbook cores are more important than greenbook electives. I can't seem to find where it matters that much when searching for license requirements ( in general). I think if they want to "88" you based on "greenbook" they can. In most cases, I think it can only give a state licensing board a reason if they don't like you.

It probably doesn't hurt to be on the safe side and make sure that the cores are "greenbook" and that most electives are "greenbook". I bet some of the medical licensing boards probably realize that one or two electives may not be "greenbook" but are taken to expand one's horizons as they say!

Most of -- if not all of US students attending US medical students have the option of getting all greenbook. However, they are never questioned about greenbook or ECFMG certification.

In our case, you don't have the option of getting all greenbook rotations in electives. Peds is hard to come by and you will take what is available to you. Many US medical centers will not let you do rotations at their facility. HOWEVER, you can apply to their residency and complete it and become board certified and become an attending teaching US medical students.... but they won't let you rotate through as a FMG.... sad.... but true. UAMS from my home state is one of them.
