Thread: your field of interest

I was interested in what field of medicine students want to go into and WHY?

I want to go into forensic pathology. Dead patients aren't going to care about my bedside manner or sue me for malpractice. Plus, it's recession-proof.

ya that sounds cool byteme but i want to go into surgery (ER). i think it will exciting but at the same time nerve racking. I watch the show ER and if it is anything like that ohhhhhhhh BOY. but that is something i want to do and i think it will be exciting. i will miss sleep a whole alot but it will be rewarding when ppl come out ok but again it can be sad if someone dies on the table. but that is my interest of field in medicine.

anybody else want to share their interest?

I want dual certification in Family Practice and Emergency Medicine, assuming I live long enough to get them. I want to practice in doctor-starved areas where I may be the only game in town, so this seems like a good combo.

Actually, some "green book" hospitals which have loan repayment plans are in such areas, so I could become a perpetual resident, pursuing one specialty after another. I'm too olde to build a private practice, and I wouldn't mind spending my remaining days in a hospital (as a doctor, that is).

Just think, I'd be the first U.S. doctor in history to be board certified in fifteen specialties and not have a penny to my name at the time of my death. Neat.
