Smile Old guy just got accepted

    Advertisements

I just got accepted for January. The interesting part is (get ready now): I'm 61. That's right, sesenta y uno. So take heart, all you other fossils out there; if you meet the requirements and are motivated, there's hope.

I got a little help, though, from a frequent contributor to this bb, whose name I promised not to mention so that s/he is not deluged by phone calls.

Now all I have to do is sell my house and find a place to stash my grand piano and other belongings for a few years. I also have to go to the doctor and get cured of a dozen or so ailments I've had for the past year (I keep putting it off because I don't trust doctors ). In fact, as I write this, I think I'm coming down with the (avian?) flu.

Can anybody make a recommendation for a no-frills cell phone model that works from Belize? I want to buy it in the U.S. without a calling plan, and get the card installed when I get there.

    Thumbs up

Your are going to need an unlocked GSM (Global System Mobile Communication) 1900 MHz cellular phone. I know that samsung, Motorola Nokia, Samsung and Ericsson, work here in belize! Not all the models might work.

    Looking forward to meeting you

You will need an unlocked GSM phone of any of the model KS as mentioned. You should not have hard time finding one because most cell phones in the states now used SIM cards (ATT and T-Mobile). If you cannot get it unlocked you should probably be able to unlock it on the island.
We look foward to seeing you on the island and trust me your age does not intimidate us. During my time here we have had at least two students in their late 50s and they both had a wonderful time. I promise you will feel young again with the atmophere here.

I keep up with the politics of medicine. For years I've become increasingly fed up with stories of more and more people dying because they can't afford a trip to the doctor or the killer drugs big pharm has duped physicians into prescribing, or the out-of-sight fees for surgery and radiodiagnostics. I'm not a charismatic figure who can change the world, but I can do my part by delivering primary care to the poorest people I can find; as long as I make enough to cover my expenses, I'll take the rest in goats and chickens.

    Yea!!! For The Gummers!!

Congrats Fossil Doc!!! I Am Defrosted From The Ice Age And Emerged Into The 21st Century @ 57 Years Old. I Have Been To The Doc To Make Sure I'm Okay TOO. i Was Accepted To Mua FOR JAN 2006 Also But Had To Decline Due To Personal Reasons; I Think It Is A Great School.
i Am Especially Encouraged TO SEE ANOTHER BABY-BOOMER FINDING A PLACE IN MEDICINE. MY SAYING GOES: "SENIORS TAKING CARE OF SENIORS". (OFF COURSE, I AM INTERESTED IN BEING A GERIATRICIAN).

at Our Age It's Not Just A "so Long See You Later" But Rather Always "may God Speed" .
we Tend To Be Thankful For Every Breath And Will Make Not Only Be Good Physicians ..............we'll Be Great Physicians.

    so...god Speed.

later, And Pm Me I Would Like To Get To Know You.

congrats, we had a guy in his 50's in my class, actually smarter than the rest of us put together. good luck...

try to keep this mentality it gets rough after a while...specially when a few of the "poorest of the poor" keep threatening to sue you, and few actually do.....also for your info its not the doctor fees that have increased its the facility fees and overhead due to malpractice rates and more advanced equipment.....remember that every patient wants wants the robotic laprascopic surgery with the newest monitors with the newest drugs at prices of the open procedure, with used equipment and generic meds.

also noone is 'duped' by the evil pharm companies other than the pateints, that damn advertising they do that has such a placebo effect, you will see how nothing but "the purple" pill works... i wish they made it ilegal to advertise meds...i am already sick of it and i've only dealt with it for about a year....oh also throw in the internet with patient check off laundry lists of complaints.....guess who has to go through it all with them? if you guessed the med student you are correct... don't get me wrong there is nothing i'd rather be doing and those one or two patients a day like this do not ruin it for me.

but enough of this, enjoy your acceptance...your statements remind me so much fo myself a few years ago....
