I know someone that just came back from a week on San Pedro in late February. I asked them to check for me the status of the former MUA Belize. Apparently the "school" is gone and has disapeared from its previously rented space.

The locals said it was chronically unstable, attracted some pretty eccentric characters and that the owners were non-doctor, sheisters (in their words) from the U.S. and had no connection to Belize, the local San Pedro community, the gov't or it's health system.

I asked if it was now operating from another location and if the above was just one persons opinion? They said they spoke to a lot of long term folks in town - from the dive shops (including some American ex-pats and retirees),restaurants etc. and the above is pretty much the sum of the opinions heard. They added, thankfully it is no longer around to bring any more negative attention to the jewel of Ambergris Caye or San Pedro.

I thought, wow! that pretty much says it all...Obviously, the local community didn't think too highly of their little paradise being used by foreigners as a loop hole just to pad their pocket books...

I would advise anyone interested, to go down there, check out the place - talk to the locals and the large group americans down there to get the true story (the MUA Belize history is pretty wild) before considering giving any money to anyone.

Check out the other MUA Belize threads. If they don't make you turn and run, nothing will!

Best of Luck
