Thread: Visitation And Vonage

Any advice for visiting the campus. I am currently taking the anatomy with lab, histology with lab, embryology, biostatistics, patient doctor.
Is 24 credits manageable? Does the school allow anyone to "trim-back" on the courses per semester?
With the crowded/chaotic situation at St. Matthew's, including very high cost of living I am about to ready to visit Belize campus and make application to MUA. School is difficult enough without having have to decipher when classes are going to be held.

Are school uniforms required?

I use voice over internet system called VONAGE will that system work in Belize?

Any great problem with mosquitoes? (am allergic to bites).

How long of a visit is recommended? I would like to visit the campus before committing.

I have a copy of the winter/January schedule; another student was wondering when is there time to study?

I anatomy offered each rolling semester? Do you use cadavers?

There's plenty of time to study! classes are staggered in way conductive for promoting a study environment. Students have access to air conditioned study centers with internet capability 24-7! The students are told well in advance when the exams will occur. Also we use actual cadeavours and supplemental materials in anatomy lab. The mosquitos are present during some rainy seasons but the island does have a truck that comes out and sprays repellent as needed. Otherwise "OFF" and other mosquito repellents are available and work very effectively. Then again it's just when it rains sometimes. and that can be rather rare. Also the school does allow students to custom tailor their schedule to an extent to better suit their needs. Several students have or are taking up to 7 or 8 semesters to complete basic sciences but doing it in 5 at MUA-B is manageable as long as you are serious about your medical education because the professors are take it seriously and do whatever it takes to help you.there are NO uniforms but a dress code is under consideration, which consists of comfortable shorts or khakis and a polo shirt or full sleeve shirt, however this may not be implemented in the near future just under consideration.A visit of 3-4 days is sufficient.Students tend to study sometimes in groups and are always helping each other out because we have a good comairade and rapport at MUA-B.

HI!! if i were in your shoes, i would most definitely check out MUA- the Belize campus, MUA nevis tends to be very crowded and the island is rough, but Belize is most friendly and our Campus is expansive, it is not uncommon to find an entire air conditoned room to study just for yourself. Also our campus is an actual dedicated school building owned by the MUA-Belize administration unlike other schools who just "rent" places. The saba island is inhospitable because it is just a "rock" with no beaches. Also SABA is busting at the seams and individual help is hard to come by, not to mention much more expensive. Here in Belize, we are practically guarenteed one on one individual help and attention if needed. You can also directly speak with the dean at MUA Belize! The staff is very friendly and helpful and show genuine concern for students. We have wireless internet hotspots at school for you to use 24-7 so make sure you bring a laptop! if you don't want to use a school desktop that is. Come check us out! i'm happy i'm here!

we've had a bunch of students from the heartland and midwest study at MUA-Belize. Students from Detroit, Cleveland, Cincinatti, Chicago,Kentucky,etc. so you can feel right at home!
