I thought I had posted this some time ago, but have had a couple of questions come up in the last day or so. Texas changed the number of years of post graduate training required of IMG's - IMG's now must only complete two years of post graduate training, it used to be three. But the two years must still be consecutive and progressive. Texas statute 155.003(a)(5)(B)

Thank you Mrs. Meyer for your posts. We are very fortunate to have you on here.

On a side note, I never really knew what the big deal was about TX when I was a student. However, now after having practiced there, its amazing how progressive the state really is for medical practice. Hopefully other states will follow as well, but I encourage people to look at the state when it comes time to open a practice.

IMGs can do residency in texas. Google the texas residency programs and you'll see dozens of IMGs in different programs throughout the state.

Post-doctoral training (also known as Post-Graduate Training and is designated PGY-x where X represents the number of years since graduation) is essentially residency and fellowship training that commences after you graduate with your medical degree.

For example: If John were a 3rd year Family Medicine Resident then he would be in his third year of post-doctoral/post-graduate training and would be designated as a PGY-3
