I checked the IMED listing. I think there're 4 P.R. schools. Looks like they're not considered caribbean even though they're located in the Caribbean region. In fact, they are LCME approved, U.S. med schools, same footing with all American mainland schools. The FAIMER IMED describes language of instruction: English , Spanish , if I remember.

Do Puerto Rico schools teach in English or Spanish or half-and-half like that school in Guadelajara, Mexico?

In terms of becoming a resident, are they superior to other Caribbean-located ones? Are they mostly only open to in-staters only (puerto rican only)?
Caribbean Medical Schools are all the School located in the Caribbean but many including, International School of Medical sciences,

Located in Panama are not called Caribbean Medical schools. The Puerto Rican Schools are similar to any US school but you must know Spanish in order to study in Puerto Rico.
Becoming a resident in the US depend of many facts most important is your performance in your school no matter where you trained.

I was recently accepted into AUC & Ross. SGU wants me to interview for the Charter Foundation Program and I'm applying to EVMS' SMP right now. So, I've been doing research on the schools and everything, and today on SGU's website I saw the "No Big Four, Only SGU" Pdf...in it they say that only SGU & Ross are "Approved by all four states requiring formal approval to conduct clinical training programs (NY, NJ, CA and FL)". But on AUC's website it says: "American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine is approved by the Medical Board of California, the Texas Medical Board and the New York State Board for Medicine. Additionally, AUC is fully licensed by the Florida Department of Education's Commission for Independent Education." Are these approvals something different?

I'm really confused, so any advice would help.

I have been going through one strange roller coaster ride in the last few weeks. Let me provide you with a little bit of a background. I graduated with a 3.78 after majoring in Information Technology. I completed my pre-med classes, did a lot of ECs, did research, and took my MCAT. I did well on the science sections but poor in verbal. I retook it. I did much better on the verbal but my sciences went way down. I applied to MD schools. I did not get any response except for an interview to GW. Coincidentally, my MCAT scores were so that they would be looked at favorably by GW as they take the best in each section. I end up getting alternate listed there. I waited for several months but enough movement failed to occur.

I made a plan that I would retake my MCAT as I reapply to US MD schools. If my MCAT did not go as well as I'd like it to, I'll simply apply to SGU and UQ/Ochsner. I don't mind studying abroad and I don't plan on staying in the US all my life. I took my third MCAT amidst a full time job and too many other commitments and distractions. I gave it my all. My third MCAT was the worst of them all. I had already been accepted to both SGU and UQ/Ochsner. I thought I was destined for either of those choices. Three days later, I get an interview invite from my top, dream school; GW. How did this happen? With my new MCAT score, I wasn't expecting anything. What just happened? This invite is for December. Oh my gosh. What the bloody hell do I do now? I was so set on going to SGU or UQ. It's like having the true love of your life coming back and deciding to give you a small chance as you begin to move on to other mates. It really brought me lots of mixed feelings and confusion. This is my dilemma. I also found out today that apparently once you accept an offer from non-AMCAS schools, you will automatically be rejected from AMCAS schools. Is this true? I have to reply to SGU or UQ by next week.

    My MCAT scores:

    MCAT1: 11 06 10 O
    MCAT2: 07 10 08 N
    MCAT3: 10 06 08 Q
    1) What do I do?

    2) SGU or UQ? How do I decide between the two? What kind of questions do I need to ask of myself to decide between the two?

    3) Any other advice?
    Thank you
MCAT score are only a guide, as part of a group of characteristics that allows school officials to be accepted as a candidate to be a medical student.

I am going to be taking it again in Jan 2011, ill def be more prepared this time, and hopefully can get at least a minimum of a 23. I am currently taking 2 grad level courses along with 3 other undergrad science classes to help boost my GPA as well as to make my app look stronger. My semester is going very well (knock on wood).
I have some decent volunteer hours and good LORs from my professors and Doctor. What are my chances at Ross? or for that matter at AUC? If I take the MCATs in Jan, can I still apply to the May 2011, or should I just apply to Aug 2011?
    Thank you =]
