Baggage Allowance on American Airlines/American Eagle Flights

    Hi

For those using American Airlines/American Eagle to get to Dominica, the following was posted on the American Airlines website under "Baggage Allowance" for flights to/from Puerto Rico. As we all know, American Eagle is a part of American Airlines. I clicked on American Eagle and looked for luggage restrictions to clarify the maximum weight allowed on the American Eagle leg of the trip.

For flights to/from Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands

The maximum amount of baggage each ticketed passenger is allowed free of charge is:

2 pieces checked and one carry-on
Please note that one carry-on personal item (briefcase, small backpack or laptop) does not count toward the free bag allowance.

The size limitation of your luggage is calculated by adding the total outside dimensions of each bag, that is, length + width + height.

TWO checked bags at 62 in/157 cm each
    ONE carry-on bag at 45 in/114 cm

The maximum weight PER checked bag is 70 lbs/32 kgs.
The maximum weight PER carry-on bag is 40 lbs/18 kgs.

Everything you need to know about Baggage on AA flights can be read on the following website.

    http://www.americanairlines.com/cont...horEvent=false

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Carlos

I will be going to Puerto Rico and will be going to Dominica from PR. It's in bold.

I just included the US Virgin Islands part for those who wanted to go there instead of Dominica.

    For flights to international destinations

The free baggage allowance varies by international destination. Please contact an American Airlines representative at 1-800-433-7300 for specifics. However, note the following:

I have just call, and ask for the international department, they have conform it is 70 lb total. Also I have been personally yesterday in the airport of San Juan and ask and they have it on the creen is 70 lb total. So I ask the nice lady today by phone, please can you confirm and she said yes is 70 lb total, and also told me never ask this question in the domestic department always ask for the international. Oh and anothe thing she at first told me 70 lb per bag, and I ask again are you sure, can you please read it for me, and when she read it carefully she then said, "Oh I am sorry, is 70 lb total. no more then 70 lb for both of them....

Please call 1-800-433-7300 and is going to be a machine first keep going until you get to a person then ask for the international department

    re:

Ok, I was wrong on this matter unfortunatly. It is 70lbs total not per bag.

It is going to make me reconsider what I am bringing down now and see what I can do to get what I need down there.

infiri : do you know much of a penalty there is for extra weight per bag?

    (over)weight

I called AA a few weeks ago and asked about that last leg of our trip. He told me that we would get charged $100 extra (flat fee) for anything >=100lbs. I neglected to ask if we get this fee charged once for he entire trip, or twice (per time we take off on a different day).
I'm not planning on going overweight, but I asked to be sure.

    ...one week to go...

Ganja Infiri suggested the weight limit is 70 lbs total for your checked luggages. He went to the airport at San Juan and the Amercan Eagle rep there told him this.
