California
Why is California approval so rare for the offshore schools?...I believe only four EE programs and four Caribbean schools have California..Does this reflect on the academics of the other schools or have they just not applied?
And do Native language programs get California automatically? thanks carl |

i think it is a combination of things...the standard IS high, so most schools that don't think they can meet the standard don't apply. also, a few may think they are close, but do not want to risk being stamped with the DISAPPROVED label, which is worse than never having applied. (personally, i think that most schools that should be approved already are, and only SMU and maybe another one or two are pretty much there or very close...)
as for native language programs, i think they are typically approved automatically. not neccesarily because of the language, but i think the programs that produce the vast majority of its graduates for practice within the country they are located in are assumed to have adequate oversight, and the public interest is typically strongly in mind (as opposed to pure profit motive). |
