Think twice

Hi there, I am not sure if you got into any Caribbean schools by now, however, you should not do a huge mistake in your life.
Look, your GPA is really low for US Med schools and your MCAT is likewise.
Are you absolutely sure that you want MD in your life?
Did you ever think of DDS or DMD? All you need is 3.0 GPA, and DAT. The DAT exam is MCAT divided by 1/3 (difficulty level).

If you still say MD and “TSW, please shut up”, than try MCAT one more time.
Look the GPA that SGU is looking for is 3.3, MCAT around 30.

My advice if you wanna get your MD, your MCAT is the answer.
Since you cannot do much about your GPA anymore, even if you enrol into graduate programs. Undergraduate GPA doesn’t blend into graduate studies at all.
Exp: your undergrad is 3.3, after you completed Ms with 3.6, no matter how well you did in your graduate school you any medical school in USA looks only and only at your undergraduate GPA.

So, once again, get MCAT higher, and try SGU or ROSS. You would not regret either of these two.

The rest of the schools (around the world even Caribbean), think twice.
I am sure you don’t wanna go to any European med schools, graduate from them, get back to USA, re-do your residency (difficulty depends on which residency) again.

Eat, study and study again. No one said that looking for an easy way out to get to medical schools would do any good on the long run.

It is fairly easy to get accepted to Caribbean schools (SGU is not the case), but it is really hard to get out of them and practice.

In-contrast US med schools, are really tough to get into, but it is so easy to get out of them and practice.

If DDS and DMD is not the medicine you think you might enjoy, then work twice as hard as you did for the MCAT (18 score).

Good luck!

P.S. How many times have you taken practice MCAT?
P.S.S. You MUST do it at least 4 times.

Sorry, do you know how to read?

Have you ever visited www.mssm.edu?
MCAT is a MUST for Mt. Sinai!

So, please do some web research before speaking.
By the way, can YOU get accepted to Mcmaster University in Canada?
And elaborate on “crappy” university please, what do you mean by that?

Later

Some students have questioned the MEDStart program because this program does not require the MCAT . This is not unique to this medical school. Mt. Sinai Medical school in New York is considered to be a prestigious medical school and it also accept students on the basis of ACT or SAT not the MCAT. The MCAT is only a tool to measure how well you can do on standardized tests. The medical schools with agreements with select undergraduate schools know that they can trust the grades at that undergraduate school.

TSW for you

Hi TSW, I posted this info to elaborate on the utility of mcat or lack of utility.

My reference to McMasters as "crappy" is sarcastic humour. As some educators see the mcat as a holy grail to becoming a doctor others, reputable others see it as less. Thus the holy grail mcat believers shoud not think very much of a McMaster grad.

Humanities and Medicine

he Humanities and Medicine Program provides a path to medical school that offers maximum flexibility in the undergraduate years for students to explore their interests in humanities and social sciences at top liberal arts colleges and research universities. The program assures highly motivated undergraduates admission to Mount Sinai upon successful completion of program requirements and graduation from their undergraduate program. MCAT's are neither required nor permitted to be taken.

One more thing

Many schools abroad do not even know what an mcat is thus why would it be a requirement for natiols of their own country or non nationals?

Keep in mind that many students may be accepted into a school abroad but the attrition rate is significant.

After one month some decide it is not really for them, get homnesick, cannot adjust to a different culture, location, language, etc etc.

Schools that teach in English remove one barrier but the others exist.

I would say it is reasonable to see 50% or less that started go on to graduate. I had to learn another language during my studies and I saw many students come and go.

Would be interesting to see how those high mcat score folks would do in a situation as above. The mcats are somewhat relevant (allegedly but disputed by some studies) and probably pertain most to students that remain in the educational system, country and culture thay are used to. ie USA and Canada.

BTW, whether or not I could get accepted to McMasters is a moot point since I've been in practice for many years.
