ACGME...
The "green book" lists all the ACGME approved residency programs. It may not contain the most up-to-date info as residencies are constantly reviewed by ACGME/RRC (Residency Review Committee)... and residencies get placed on probation, suspension, reinstatement... etc all the tme. So the best way to check is to look at the ACGME website.
Residencies are accredited under each individual program. So, "green book hospital" is really a meaningless term. Having one residency program in a particular hospital does not mean that you can do whatever rotation you want in that hospital. Let's say, Hospital A has ACGME-approved internal medicine and OBGYN residency programs. the only thing you can do in that hospital is internal medicine and OBGYN. You cannot do things like surgery, peds, psych... etc. So, as you can see, the term "green book hospital" really means absolutely nothing. You need to check WHAT RESIDENCIES are approved in that hospital and do only rotations under those residencies. And, as IMG's, doing rotations only in ACGME-approved residency program is HUGE. I cannot possibly stress enough about this. You ABSOLUTLEY WILL HAVE LICENSURE PROBLEMS if you do ANY of your rotations outside of this ACGME framework. There is now a huge movement within the medical education community to require "accreditation" for everything students/residents do, doesn't matter if you are an IMG or not. As residents we used to be able to spend our electives doing whatever we want -- things like going to a remote clinic in Mongolia. But no longer. There's a huge push by ACGME/RRC to pressure (just short of requiring) program directors to only allow residents to do electives within the ACGME framework. More and more states/AMA are pushing for all undergraduate medical training (meaning medical school clinicals) to be done only within the ACGME framework... and this is for US students as well. So, within these political climates of "accreditation" and such, what do you think will happen if an IMG does anything outside of the ACGME framework? You will be hung out to dry.... P
