Exclamation Please HELP! More information on HOPE UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE IN BELIZE

Hey guys,

I just got accepted to Hope University School of Medicine in Belize but the problem is that they didn't give me an interview which is really suspicious. Can someone either in the school or not, give me more information about this school, especially its credibility. I checked their website and it looks very simplisitic and there were no stories of their recent students or graduates. I am really scared to put up any fees to this school since it really sounds shady.

Thanks guys and hope to hear from all you guys soon!!

I'd stay away from this school, because it looks like a scam. See this thread.

Yes this school is questionable to say the least.

This school is barely a year old, so you won't find much numbers at all.
It is always a risk to go in a brand new school, no one can predict how it will turn out.
But it's aim is to be a serious school.
I think that they don't have many students and most of them are in clinicals (transfer students).
I am graduating from HOPE next month.
I have applied for residency (as a foreign citizen, needing a visa) last month, and I have 7 interviews so far.
I have a friend who is graduating in Febuary and who is also going through the match.
The school has been exeptionally nice to me.
It is just so new that no one can know it's outcome.
You need to ask them more questions.

Is there another student that has gone to Hope Univerisity except for isa? From previous posts, I understand you transferred to Hope since you couldn't have graduated if the classes just started this year. Whatever your reasons may be for switching your final years of medical school to Hope instead of staying at your old school puzzles me but I need to know if anyone is in the school that started in Jan 2005.

Where are your residency places isa?

Thank you Miklos, whuds and isa for your help!

I have a number of problems with this school.

In the past, their website claimed that they were building a "Hungarian" campus outside of Budapest. That has disappeared and now they claim a "sub-campus".

If there is a "sub-campus", isa, would you mind listing its Hungarian address, so that I can check it out?

In addition, their website is highly misleading about this.

Come to Hungary to do your medical training at HOPE University School of Medicine!
The authority on higher education in Hungary is the Hungarian Accreditation Committee (HAC). They do not list them.

Hope Belize students, such as isa, who rotate at Semmelweis do so as electives students and do not speak a word of Hungarian. How do they communicate with patients, then?

I think that I might send a letter to the HAC and inquire about them.

How do you think that Semelweiss accomodates their hundreds of foreign students in their international program, when these students are obliged to do some rotations onsite???
They have an english speaking program of course.
I did rotations with many israeli students and it was in english because they have to, including physical and history.....

I think that I'm far more familiar with English programs in Hungary than you are. I also know how many patients speak English on Hungarian wards. The difference between you and the Israeli students is that they've taken Hungarian language classes and spent at least 4 years in Hungary.

Semmelweis, IMO whether it has a formal relationship or not with Hope (Belize) stands merely to lose from this relationship.

So, how did they communicate with the patients?

Hebrew? Yiddish? German? (Some patients do speak those languages.)
