??
ITs the way Habeed came across to potential medical students.....If someone read what he wrote right off the bat, then he or she might not go into medicine, and just be discouraged.....
Somebody could say i like this field or that field before starting medicine, but after 4 years of medical school alot changes, they do there rotations in different fields, and then get to choose there electives, and for many there interests change..... |

thanks
Thanks for the advise everyone. Although plastic surgery is my first choice there are many other fields of medicine that I am interested in. I know that I need to complete all of the pre reqs before I can be admitted into a med school, but I need advise on what route to take to complete these pre reqs. What are my options?

Med school

Congrats on your decision to become a doctor! That is great. I would strongly recommend that you take the pre-reqs from a fully accreditted college or university. Whiel you could take some at a commnity college, that could reflect poorly on you. I don't know what all a studio artist takes, but you will be up against chem and bio majors, so take your pre-reqs at a school where the chem and bio majors take them. That will help to level things, not to mention prepare youwell for the MCATS. The caribbean is a great choice if you want it, don't moind paying for it, or don't get in in the US. Be aware that there are also osteopathy schools that award D.O.s. These degrees let ytou do everything an MD does, oincluding participating in the match, They are gnerally easier to get into than us med schools. Also, you will match about the same as with an MD from a big carib school like St. George's. By the way, St. George's has a good history of landing difficult residencies, and every year that churn out plenty of surgeons. I don;t know much about other schools, so anyone else please add to this. Good luck in your decision! PM if you have any qquestions specific to my journey. Andy PS I am accpeted at AUC and waiting to hear from SGU. I was also a non-traditional major |

choices
by the way, a study showed the average med student chnages his mind about specialty 3 times during his last 2 years of med school! and over 85% of students go into a specialty other then what they wanted when they entered medicine. i went tinto med school wanting toi do trauma surgery. then cardiology, then ER, then orthopedics, then back to medicine. tahts what i am in now, and i am very happy. i played hockey for years,a nd in hindsight, i would end up on disability if i had gone into surgery!!!! oh.....and thanks for the tweedy quote!!! long time since i heard that one!
