the shorter study cycles can be offset by longer waiting periods for clinicals, extra paperwork, how long your school takes to process things.. even if your school gets you in clinicals the next day and overnights all your paperwork the time saved in this scenario is hugely disproportionate to the opportunities lost later on residency interviews lost, specialities that are an even longer shot, hospitals that will not look at your applicatioon, etc....if a year is worth all that then so be it but if anyone has a realistic shot at a US MD or DO school you should consider going to those before the word caribbean even enters your vocabulary

From what I have read, the rate of default for loans that were used to fund the education of US citizens outside of the US was dramatically higher than that of US citizens that were educated inside the US. There is no reason to further burden our government, the tax payers, or the Stafford loan program with this issue. There are plenty of private loans through private corporations available to US citizens that want to attend schools outside of the US.
