i think it will pass easily. apparently, **** cheney cut short a trip oversees to cast the tie breaker in the senate. it was obviously an important bill that the bush admin tauted and wanted to get passed (regardless of grandfather or no grandfather.... we are small potatoes). i dont think a republican house would spit in the administration's face.

So we are included in this bill?

What was with that email we all got saying that the grandfather clause hadn't been considered in this?

Basically, an email for AUC stating that the bill passed only dealt with mandatory provisions and did not deal with the grandfather clause. I didn't understand it really.

My understanding of what has happened is that the grandfather clause was never really removed. The Senate had added a provision that could be considered the '60% rule.' That is, 60% of the graduates must come from the country hosting the medical school. That means, if you had say 60% of the students graduating from Ross were citizens of Dominica, then US students would qualify for loans to Ross.

Of course, this is just academic right now since the 60% rule was removed. That means, if the House decides not to change the Senate version, we will be in good shape---I think.

That rule was always in effect. That was the point of the grandfather clause was that you either had to have 60% attendence from the countries own citizens (plus some other stuff)... OR, be approved by a state before 1991 (i think that is the year), which was the grandfather clause part.

i think we're all completely confused and can basically just hope for the best.....if it doesnt work our way, its really time to start voting some of these no-good congressman and senators from their seats.....pretty much just like what theyre doin with the eminent domain thing

Official: Grandfather clause remains

It passed. The grandfather clause remains on a vote of 216 to 214.

Now, Bush needs to sign the bill into law--which he is expected to do soon.

come on everybody........... you have to admit that the repubs came through on this one............ without them..... these bills would have been defeated by dems and we would have been in limbo again, not knowing if it will remain through another round of battles.

i know about sessions being a republican, but he was a fluke on the right side.

GO BUSH!!!!!...... sign that badboy into law

(disclaimer: im not delusional though.... i know we werent the make or break cause)
