2) just look at all the other schools, except for SMU, all 20+ other carib schools run the gambit from bad to worse.
SABA is pretty good too.

Is this different from teh original problem

Can someone explain what is going on? specifically with the part quoted below from an article:

http://vocuspr.vocus.com/vocuspr30/P...4.htm#11513744

The bill would allow:

"Allow American students attending medical schools in the Caribbean to continue receiving federal financial aid. The original Senate version would have made medical schools ineligible to receive federal student aid if they were located outside the United States and if more than 60 percent of their enrollments were made up of American citizens (The Chronicle, December 15)."

If the bill still allows us to receive financial aid, then why is everyone worried. I don't understand how this works...Did they just add this(above) part to the bill? So originally, the bill didn't allow students (carribean) to receive financial aid?

the only thing i can come up with is that congress will either pass the original senate version or the house bill? is that how it is? the house bill allows us to get financial aid and the senate bill does not? so it's either one of those?

the house version had the clause in it to allow us to get federal aid, the senate version did not so they had to go into a combined com. to work it out. the clause is enbeded in all sorts of other bills and i doubt most congressmen even know its in there. either way it has been extended until march so theyu cintinue arguing about all the provisions in there so we are ok at least until the next loan cycle.

write semator sessions, from alabama he is the driving force behind this clauise and has called our schools diploma mills....also write your congress reps in the house and senate so they knwo how this will affect you

According to the Chronicle of Higher Education on Dec. 15th the consolidation bill contained the grandfather clause. This consolidation bill passed the Senate but some minor changes were made to it and so the current bill has to go back before the House. So this current bill contains the grandfather clause and the House version originally had the grandfather clause. So as long as none of the minor changes prevent the House from approving the consolidation bill then we in good shape. I think we have to continue to monitor the situation closely, but for now we achieved the biggest hurdle: getting the grandfather clause in the consolidation bill.

In the interim we are covered by the extension which is good until March.

I bet it's all politics to Sessions and he will not care squat about US. He's in some place where he has dealed away our futures without any rhyme or reason, If he really understood then he would never call the schools "Diploma Mills".

I'm sure he has a reason, probably a huge donation or whatever motivates politicians. I think we would be better off contacting the other people on that committee, since he already has his mind made up. If they really know what is going on, they will realize it is rediculous. There was an article published earlier stating the that "buck" Mckean was on our side and he is in charge of the house bill I think. So at least someone knows what is going who can spread the word when the discussion comes up.

Yeah, we just need to stay on them. We are almost out of this scary situation. The current fight, I was told, is over the Alaska Oil Drilling Stuff. The Grandfather Clause is a done deal. Let's just make sure that the AMA doesn't slip something in there to hurt us.

I received an email from the woman who wrote the article in the Chronicle of Higher Education:

Quote:
Hi *******,
Sorry it took me awhile to respond - I was out until yesterday and was
waiting on my colleague (who added that graph to the story) for an
answer. He tells me that the bill would continue to allow students
studying at Carribean medical schools to receive aid.
Hope this helps!
