Let me clarify, Bush has to sign it if it is to become law. That can only happen if the House passes it.

It is not likely that Bush will veto this bill if Cheney cut short his visit to the Middle East to cast the tie-breaking vote.

Right now, it appears as though the House will pass this amended bill (at least that is what the article reported). When this will happen is the last question to be answered.

Does anyone know "for sure" what has happened with the bill as of today?

First of all, the Senate included the "grandfather clause" allowing the big 3 to continue receiving federal aid.

The Senate changed the bill that was handed to them by the House. This means that the House must vote again.

The good news is that the House originally had the clause, and I suspect they won't remove it.

Lobbyists want to defeat the bill. So if the House does not revote before Christmas, lobbyists will have time to work against the bill. Pellosi is not a fan of the bill (http://wireservice.wired.com/wired/s...=wn_wire_story)

If the House does pass the bill Bush will sign it. Do you believe that Cheney would cancel a trip to come back to cast the tie-breaking vote if Bush was not going to sign the bill into law?
Well, this is a quote from Bush:

President George W. Bush hailed the Senate action, saying "it will help keep us on track to cut the deficit in half by 2009."

Although the big 3 will have federal loans, it appears as though the interest rates will increase due to this bill.

nice work

At this point, I would gladly take a higher interest rate if we can keep our loans. I hope this goes through.

By the way, do you know what section of the bill text I look to show that we are still in the bill? I cannot find it.
