SGU or SABA

I have posted this on the two school sites but this looks like the main forum. I was looking for some first hand feedback from students and alumni on the pros and cons of each school for starting sept05. I have gained admission to both SGU and Saba, but SGU is 100k more, bigger class size, for the same education at Saba? Is this accurate. And does it really matter which Caribbean school you attend between the four, SGU, Saba, Ross or AUC?? Does attending SGU give you a better chance of obtaining a more competitive residency than attending Saba? I have to decide between the two with in the next few weeks, so your reply would be much appreciated. Also do any of the schools in the Caribbean allow you to become licensed to practice in Europe??

thanks for the replies :-)

Just flip a coin, and do what the coin tells you to do. There are all the same, to be politically correct.

this questions is asked again and again; I think 3 times in the last 24 hours. Its best to do a search before asking a "which is better" question. Its been all addressed before. Then you can post specific questions once the general ones are answered. try the search button. Good luck.

Well,that's knowledgebased decision making , according to some people.

But the other way would be to look at the following parameters:
1]Loan rates & tuition amounts;
2]Life at each of these islands;
3]Clinical rotation sites & their proximity to your home town.
4]Opportunity to research & get published etc, etc.

I am sure I have missed some points, but you can think of them in accordance to your needs.Also your own MCAT scores & GPA play a vital part.If you think your scores are more in the range of other schools than the one's you mentioned,apply there too.

Good luck man!

Re: Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.....

i agree with NN on this one; they're not all the same. if they were, we'd all pick the cheapest one on the corresponding nicest island. Id rearrange the parameters though
1)can you get licensed in the state you want from a given school
2) pass rates on the boards
3) % who make it to the boards WITH thier class and dont decel or fail
4) sort of residencies and specialities people get from a given place
5) then cost, lifestyle etc of school

as for opportunity to get published- i think that's neither here nor there; you simply ask someone your rotating with to do publications. No one school is superior in the offshore world, unless Im missing something. Or unless you count the few places that have resaerch institutes (sgu does; dont know about otehrs) but which very very few students publish through unless their in the masters program. I think for the typical student, this makes no difference. Just hook up with a clinical person and write a paper.

saba or sgu

thanks folks, not sure where I want to pratice as of yet. I am from Massachusetts but hate the snow and 6 hrs of day light during the winters. I know Saba just got approved for cali and the cali review committee confirmed Saba's pass rate to @ 94 to 95% on steps 1 and 2. I know SGU is a great school but its scary to think of the debt i will be in in four years, as i look at the bill for 22k for the first semester at SGu compared to 7 K for Saba. I apologize if the question is somewhat redundant. But I do appreciate the feedback. I would love to hear some more.
I am planning to visit both schools in mid june.

thanks
