Determining Graduate Student Status for Stafford Loans. Help.
Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone has had any trouble being recognized as a graduate student for stafford purposes during their first few semester of study. I'm at INTEC and am having a hard time getting the school to recognize that I should be considered a graduate student because I'm taking half medical classes and half THEIR premedical requirements. At least in the DR the med schools have numerous pre-medical requirements that aren't required by american medical schools, while completing those courses you're considered to be an undergraduate for stafford loan purposes even though the program end with the conferal of an MD, not a bachelors, it's not a dual degree program. Has anyone else had a similar problem or know of anyone who might have? I'm running out of resources to consult. Maybe someone out there knows of an oversight comittee or some agency stateside that supervises these programs where a student can call. So far the only advice I've been given is to confer with the schools financial aid advisor, but I don't trust she's giving me accurate information or properly interpretting federal regulations regarding the definition of a graduate student. If anyone knows of some place other than the 18004finaid number where a student can call in the event they feel their school might be misunderstanding federal regulations please post it or drop me a line. If anyone has any other help or experiences with a similar situation please post it. Thanks for your help.
Take care and God Bless.
Ozzie.
