Petition to increase the number of GME residency Slots

I got permission to spread this around. I suggest that we all do the right thing and sign this. It is much better and worth while than talking about my home town of NYC's approval!! This will honestly show by signing this, how much do you really care about your life - while studying medicine - as saving someone's life.

Now, if you are gonig to sign this petition, let your voice reach to Washinton D.C., then give me a HELL YEAH!!!!!

    Dear Friends,

Here is the link to sign a petition requesting President O to call upon Congress to increase the number of Medicare-funded GME residency training slots: http://wh.gov/QL0. Please click on this link and go there today to sign the petition. Ask your friends and family members to also sign the petition. Anybody can sign the petition. We need 25,000 signatures by May 11 for our concern to be taken seriously.

There is also a template for a letter (attached to this email) that All of you who are ECFMG-Certified MDs need to download, edit, print and then mail to the president, your state senators, and members of congress in your district. The blue, bold-faced parts of the letter are my own, so you need to edit them and make them your own before sending.
We also have a Facebook page. Click on the following link and please like the page, not just the comments.

You can also follow me on Twitter @garantoine.
Let's keep the pressure on, until Congress effectively increases the number of Medicare-funded GME residency slots.

Thanks and good luck to all!

    Garry

The reason why people wont sign this, is because it wants to Kick NON_US IMG out of the match. THis will never happen. for various economical reasons. Also it will never happen because many canadians attend these schools. So it will never happen.

Hey Sonia, no one is trying to kick out non-US IMGs. The petition is asking Congress to spend money, so we can't say that it will be for the entire world. But once they increase the number of spots, guess who will benefit alongside US IMGs? Exactly, everybody!

To those who have not yet signed, what do you have to loose by signing this petition? It will only take 2 minutes of your time. Think about it!!!!

I know you may be skeptical about it, but what do you have to loose? Just sign it, PLEASE!!!

And by the way, this is going to work, as we're not simply signing a petition and hoping that luck will do the rest. We have a specific plan in place, with lots of PR, public awareness, political pressure, many tactics & ammunitions, and a well thought-out strategy. You will thank me later if you join us NOW!

As other are speaking, just sign it. I promise, it won't hurt. It going help a lot in the future. Here's the link: https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petition...ident/KvjLkGG9 And please pass it around to others. Pass it to other Caribbean Med schools, staff members. I swear - entire Caribbean Med School islands, including staff members - is really > 25K alone.

If you aren't going to do any above, ask this question to yourself: What is exactly am I losing by signing this and tell my friends to do the same? Because I really don't see any. Please do.

    Here's what is about.

Our request, Mr. President, is to call upon Congress to pass a legislation that would effectively increase the number of Medicare-funded GME residency slots. Those slots should also cover US citizen and Permanent Resident International Medical Graduates (IMGs) . A recommended number is 21,000, based on a peer-reviewed study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). That would not only help solve the physician shortage we now face in our nation and benefit the fast growing patient population, it would also pave the way for many US IMGs who have been denied a contributing role in this country to start doing what they were trained to do: saving lives. At the same time, these US IMGs would be able to care for their family and live their lives with dignity. Thank you.

Please get invloved - it's your future that we are speaking of.
    Thanks,

    MD 1 [X] MD 2 [X] MD 3 [X] MD 4 [X] MD 5 [X]

the Congress would not take an issue seriously unless of it is of national interest.
They are criticizing O for outsourcing Green jobs! How would they pass a legislation that would create jobs for Indians and Chinese (the two economies threatening to put US behind!).
I agree with you, the petition should have focused on the "doctors shortage" without mentioning US IMGs
