States in U.S. that prohibit some Caribbean school grads from practicing

    Hey Everybody,

Because of my weaker science grades and no mcat to submit (my old scores expired and I'm not taking it again), I am not applying to the Big 4 (AUC,Ross,SABA,St.George).

Instead, I am looking into applying to MUA, UMHS, AUA, and Sint Eustatius.

What states in the U.S. prevent practicing with a degree from these schools?

Does any one of these 4 Caribbean med schools (MUA,UMHS,AUA,Sint Eustatius) have more states in the U.S.A. that enable their graduates to get licensed in?

    Thanks for your help!

At this time, UMHS does not have California approval. It is not likely to get that state's approval before you start medical school. If a school does not have California approval on the day that you start there, you cannot get a license in the state under current law. If practicing in California is important to you, then UMHS is not your school.

If you attedn UMHS, you would be eligible for licensure in all of the other states, however, some of the states that follow California's approval list might require you to get your first license in another state.

While I know UMHS, I don't think it is my place to talk about the other schools so I will let someone else do that.

don't be lazy and retake the mcat. you're really hurting yourself by choosing to go to those other med schools. if however, your gpa is so low that you couldn't get into those schools anyway then I suggest taking a good long look at yourself and see if you can handle the extremely tough curriculum of medical school, because if you had problems doing well in undergrad then you should really have plans to change the way you study because medical school is 1000 times tougher and it would really suck to fail out or not be able to get a residency after completing medical school and having a few hundred thousand dollars in loans. remember that about 48% of all IMGs match into a residency, and because you'd be going to those weaker schools you fall into that 48% category.

I think you are really failing yourself if you completely eliminate the Big 4. Take the MCAT again.

Would you mind posting you stats?
