    Universidad Xochicalco 411

Hi guys, Im new to this forum so I thought I would give some 411 on Xochicalco.

1.First off you don't need a bachelors, your high school diploma is equivalent to a mexican degree.
2.No mcat!! You need sat only a minimum score of 1000.
    3.You can receive fafsa
4.The not so good after your 4 years of med school you have to do 1 year of internship and 1 of social service.
    5.Tuition is 11,000.
I just finished my first year, and overall I think it's a pretty good school. I passed the sat in spanish with 1300 and change,(I just missed test dates for english sats) if you don't pass you do a semester of premed. I started first semester and I have to admit it was pretty intense. So I decided to take a step back and enter a semester of premed. It was the best thing I could ever do!! The only thing that sucks its that fafsa didn't cover the premed program. There is free torturing for all subjects. The teachers for the most part are great, in the sense that they will explain things thoroughly. They also have e a community program witch you have to attend on saturdays but its fun, you do community dx and also health fares(checking blood pressure,pap-smear, vaccinations). The Ensenada campus also has apartments which are pretty cheap 6,000 a year for 2 bedroom with full bath and kitchen and you split that with someone. My spanish is pretty good but not reading it, so I bought all my books in english, and Im good. Both Tijuana and Ensenada campus's can help you with finding a place to live.

If you guys need any 411 give me your email and I can answer all your questions! Take care and good luck guys!

    Still, safer than Ciudad Juarez.

Ignoring the murders and torture, I would say the Tijuana is the nicer place to live, with well-developed areas with nice buildings, shady trees and grass.

For translating my documents to Spanish for Xochicalco, I used a translation service called Bayliss Treviso, that I found on Google.com. Their address is Calle Rio Nazas 2375-102, and their phone number is (664) 686-6085. They are in a somewhat scary-looking neighborhood, at the end of a long outdoor hallway and the 2nd floor, blocks from the Plaza Río, in a green building. I took one of the many buses labeled "Plaza Río", or whatever they are labeled (these buses are ubiquitous from downtown/the border) to this place.

For my medical exam, I went to a doctor at a Farmacias Similares on Avenida Constitución. I paid about 30 pesos for the medical certificate.

I am far away from Tijuana, but someone may find this info useful.

    HELP PLEASE
I know you said that FAFSA covers 100%, and your living expenses $8,500. Can you receive more money, and how often do you receive this money? Can you survive living in a decent one bedroom apartment, just studing, without working..? ..and do you think it would be a good idea to take a short program here in the states before moving there; that it might help?

    THANK YOU!!!!

    Are you kidding me?
I've lived in Tijuana on and off with my wife and girls since 2004 and let me just say it is by far the nastiest, dirtyest, scummy, garbage heap of a city I have ever had the opportunity to visit, let alone live in. Any "green areas" have long since turned brown and dusty because no one wants to pay the water bill, not even the city. Tijuanenses seem to like their dirty little city and are proud of it. They are very quick to defend it against Americans who are rightfully shocked when they see what lurks across the border from "America's Finest City".
Having said that, I actually enjoy living here for now. I would much rather be in Ensenada though, but family issues may not permit that any time soon. Ensenada is like a whole different world apart from Tijuana. Is it scenic? You betcha! There is a reason cruise ships stop there, and no it's not for Hussong's or Papas & Beer. I'm a beginning surfer and I also love to fish and off-road race, camp, etc. that sort of thing so I would LOOOVEE to attend the Ensenada campus. The drive down the coast from Tijuana to Ensenada is one of the most beautiful coastal highway drives in the world, look it up, it's called La Costa Dorada, or the golden coast. It's also right on the beach, the cruise/cargo port is right in the middle of downtown. In Tijuana, you have to drive forever to get to the coast and when you get there, its usually contaminated because the Tijuana river flows into the ocean just above the border and then you get all that crap floating back down to Playas de Tijuana after it contaminates Imperial Beach, CA first. There is no morning and afternoon ocean breeze effect in Tijuana because the coastal mountains that separate the beach from the city divert the wind currents. But in Ensenada, there is a constant fresh and cool breeze and it is a bit more humid for the same reason, keeping things cooler.
Ensenada is a much better choice for the American student, unless you plan on living in San Diego and communting to school every day.

I heard that the money you get from FAFSA it has to be payback, is it?
