    Universidad Xochicalco 411

Hi guys, Im new to this forum so I thought I would give some 411 on Xochicalco.

1.First off you don't need a bachelors, your high school diploma is equivalent to a mexican degree.
2.No mcat!! You need sat only a minimum score of 1000.
    3.You can receive fafsa
4.The not so good after your 4 years of med school you have to do 1 year of internship and 1 of social service.
    5.Tuition is 11,000.
I just finished my first year, and overall I think it's a pretty good school. I passed the sat in spanish with 1300 and change,(I just missed test dates for english sats) if you don't pass you do a semester of premed. I started first semester and I have to admit it was pretty intense. So I decided to take a step back and enter a semester of premed. It was the best thing I could ever do!! The only thing that sucks its that fafsa didn't cover the premed program. There is free torturing for all subjects. The teachers for the most part are great, in the sense that they will explain things thoroughly. They also have e a community program witch you have to attend on saturdays but its fun, you do community dx and also health fares(checking blood pressure,pap-smear, vaccinations). The Ensenada campus also has apartments which are pretty cheap 6,000 a year for 2 bedroom with full bath and kitchen and you split that with someone. My spanish is pretty good but not reading it, so I bought all my books in english, and Im good. Both Tijuana and Ensenada campus's can help you with finding a place to live.

If you guys need any 411 give me your email and I can answer all your questions! Take care and good luck guys!

If you cross check the address, it is the same, listed under Ensenada.
Oh. Ok. Is it normal for schools in Mexico to have multiple names? eg. "Universidad Xochicalco" and "CENTRO DE ESTUDIOS UNIVERSITARIOS D
    CALLE SAN FRANCISCO"?

    Xochicalco Tijuana campus

I have humbling news about Xochicalco´s Tijuana campus. Behind the campus, there is a dirt road that turns to mud in the rain, whereas the road in front of the campus is paved with asphalt. Right behind the campus is a neighborhood known as Los Alamos. There are a lot of illegal-drug users and drug dealers in this neighborhood, who sell even right in front of the giant Jesus Christ statue along Blvd Insurgentes. Much of the murder in Tijuana is due to gang activity related to the illegal drug trade. There were a lot of murders in Tijuana in 2009.

While looking for housing near Xochicalco in Tijuana, I befriended someone who lived behind the campus and started dating him. He was a drug dealer, but of course he didn´t come right out and tell me this. Instead, he told me that he earned money by repairing machines and reselling them, and that he worked in construction jobs. Because of him, I was unwittingly introduced to some drug dealers and even found myself staying in the house of one. Then I was told the truth about what they did for a living. When I said that I would leave the next morning because I did not approve, my boyfriend said he was going to kill me. Eventually I was able to leave, after pretending like I would come back. Because of fear for my life by my parents and myself, I decided to not attend and to stay completely out of Baja California. My $500 deposit was not refundable. I had also completed a ton of paperwork for school and looked for rentals, and all that effort was in vain.

Fortunately the other drug dealers treated me kindly. Only the boyfriend was a jerk.

Be careful who you make friends with, especially in an impoverished country. One person can ruin your life.

May I ask you a question, and I do not not want to sound like a rude jerk or anything, but, what does all the misfortunes you had out of your decisions (in terms of whom you decided to date or befriend) have to do with Xochicalco and it's medical program?

    Good luck by the way!

It´s the location--Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico--where everyday there are multiple murders related to the illegal drug industry, and the illegal drug industry is right around Xochicalco (immediately behind the school, on the sides of the schools, further away). Kidnappings are also a problem. Other people warned me about that neighborhood too. They said, "Always use a car. Never walk. It´s not safe at night." In TJ and also near the school, you may see some people who are "not quite right" (drug addicts). I would have never guessed that some people are drug dealers or users, until a drug dealer started pointing them out: "He sells drugs. He uses drugs. I sell them drugs, etc, etc."

Don´t make friends with people in TJ unless you know them through the school or know where they work.

I´m still not sure that I made the right decision in cancelling my enrollment with them. Maybe I could have survived 6 years in TJ without anymore problems. I´ll never know the quality of the Xochicalco program.

Scary news about murders in Tijuana can be found at this site: Narco Tijuana

Yes, Ensenada is safer than Tijuana, but Ensenada looks too much like a desert for my tastes. Tijuana has a lot of green areas (although some parts, like to the south, look very desert-like). I actually like Tijuana quite a bit, except for the homicides and tortures. Ignoring the murders and torture, I would say the Tijuana is the nicer place to live, with well-developed areas with nice buildings, shady trees and grass.

    Xochicalco Ensenada vs. Xochicalco Tijuana

Wow, your message is incredible!!! First of all, I don't remember greenery or scenery at all about Tijuana and I pass through it once a week at least. Ensenada has the Valle Guadalupe and San Antonio de las Minas and is a heck of alot more scenic than Tijuana. Second of all, why would you start dating someone you didn't know well in Tijuana? I think I talked to you last year and as I remember I told you that Ensenada is much safer than Tijuana as far as crime, etc. Anyways, dating is not recommended the first year of school anyways due to workload and adjustment to Mexico. Remember, Mexico is a third world country and NOTHING like North County San Diego!!! Anyways, I hope you didn't quit because of your mistake in dating a drug dealer. Like the other commenter said, you can't blame the school for that. I am sure you have received countless news articles from the San Diego Union about Tijuana, so you couldn't have gone into this blindly.
