What is the best option?

I am a US citizen doing my Bachelor's in Pharmacy in India, but my real dream is to become a doctor in the US. I also did my high school here.

1. What is the best option for foreign medical studies?

I am willing to go anywhere. But money is a real problem. I'm gonna have to take loans for everything.... tuition, living expenses, you name it. The easiest option for me right now is to do it here in India. There are a few medical schools in this state which offer MBBS programs.... total expense maybe around $85,000. But I want to choose the best option.

2. Are Carribean medical schools the better option?

3. Are clinicals in the US a clear advantage over non US?

4. Do Carribean graduates fair better in the USMLE?

Carrib med school sounds expensive..... Maybe around $200,000+ all together.

5. Will I be able to pay back loans quickly once a licensed doctor?

My high school subjects were pretty advanced..... and I have taken courses like Physiology including anatomy, organic chemistry, advanced organic, medicinal chemistry, inorganic chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology, pathophysiology, pharmacy practice, etc. Any chance of getting accepted into a Carribean med school without having to do pre meds?

Please help.

Doing an MBBS in India (if can gain admission) would probably be the best option for you financially. The main benefit of Caribbean schools is US Clinicals: helping with the NRMP Residency Match process. I would say Indian MBBS graduates tend to do better on average than Caribbean graduates on USMLE Step 1 simply because they tend to come from a better academic pool to begin with.

The speed with which you could pay back loans would depend on how quickly you can gain Residency in the US.

There are some Carib schools which will accept you directly into Basic Sciences without the premed prerequisite courses. Unfortunately you will probably end up with licensing issues in the US depending on where you seek licensure. Each state determines what premed courses must show up on an applicant's academic background. I suggest choosing a short list of states in the US where you would like to practice and research what are the academic requirements for licensure in those states. The choose a course which would lead to such licensure.

Is there also a limit to the number of states where MBBS graduates can practice?

If you have ALL of the Prerequisite course work done already (1 Full year of: Bio, Chem & OChem including labs plus at least one Semester of: Physics with lab, Math & English Composition) then you are eligible to apply directly into Basic Sciences.
