University of the West Indies

There is a MBBS program. I wonder if any of you went to that school and became a physician in the U.S.

or is it the school we should just 'stay out' ?

The University of the West Indies at St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago

It is indeed the school you should just 'stay out'

Many UWI graduates are practicing physicians in the USA. UWI is recognised by all 50 states.

However, UWI was set up to serve the people of the 14 British West Indian countries in 1948.

UWI MUST NOT BE CONSIDERED AS IF IT IS ONE OF THE MEMBERS OF THE OFFSHORE MEDICAL SCHOOL INDUSTRY

It is indeed the school you should just 'stay out' THANK YOU.

Obviously you did NO research at all on this school but still made such a bold statement. The perfect recipe for looking as bad as you can get.

UWI has a long track record of producing excellent physicans in the US. Also, they are recognized by all 50 states which is definitely a plus.

I know some people that went there...the curriculum is not based on the US Model of incorporating USMLE's...you will be on your own when it comes to studying for those. Their training is more British based.

I think you have to take the PLAB and I'm not sure how many foreign trained docs the UK is taking anymore. They used to have a system for UWI grads to come in and start working without the PLAB but that was done away with almost 6-7 years ago.

Yes thats right, I think UWI grads now have to follow the standard procedure for registration with the GMC. As for entry into the UK post graduation, if you didn't receive your degree from an EU medical school, you will NOT be entering the UK for foundation training posts for at least the next couple of years.

No, that is not what it means. It means it is a hard program, and they follow the rules for GMC registration. They do not and will not prepare you for the USMLE boards because that is not their mission. It is an excellent medical school not to be confused with ANY pseudo-american-offshore medical school program, two different things here.
