Question UAG vs. SGU???

i can't seem to decide between university autonoma de guadalajara or st. george's in the caribbean. with SGU i know you can do your clerkship years in the US, and that this will probably get you into a better residency.

however, i am leaning toward UAG for several reasons: A) i have lived in mexico and would love to spend 4 more years there B) i want to do primary care (internal med) C) i want to serve spanish-speaking populations in the US

any major pros and cons you can list would be much appreciated.
thanks

no, are they better than uag? i lived in mexico for 6 months last year and i really loved it there. this is making the decision very difficult given the seemingly common notion that UAG is inferior to SGU/ROSS.

don't the PR school require residency or some tie to the island?

well since the PR schools are LCME (and thus the same as a mainland US school), they are actually better than any caribbean/mexico option.

i believe Ponce has a preference for PR residents, but there are 2 others- and the biggest hurdle is usually the fact that a majority of your education requires a good handle on spanish (for you that seems to be a bonus!).

PR schools I'm sure try to admit as many PR residents as possible. But they want/need students just like every other school. Don't be too surprised if their admissions requirements are pretty stiff however. LCME accreditation is no joke.

i will check out pr schools, though i seem to remember that they require fluency in spanish (which i do not have). also if it requires applying via aamcas again, there is nooooo way! i'm tired of waiting to go to med school.

wow, nice to see some official people in this forum. yeah i think the PR option may be difficult. i'll go down to the local bookseller and do some "free" studying of the MSAR. thanks mr. T.
