Ny/tx

Can't you get licensed in NY and TX by keeping rotations green? I haven't seen WSOM on any disapproved lists.

this is a copy of a post i put up in another forum. im really curious about if there was a change in new york policy recently.

-----------------------------------------------

here is the thing that is interesting. i never understood why people keep saying that if a school is not approved by new york, then you cant do residency. the new york approval is only for rotations in the state. it even says that on the website that lists the schools approved.

i have seen people post correspondence that they had with the new york medical board in which the new york medical board stated that they couldnt do a residency in the state from an unapproved school. i dont understand that because ive seen plenty of students from unapproved schools do a residency in new york.

even look at st james. i remember when these residents were on those hospital websites listed as st james graduates. the FM new york grad was at SUNY stony brook. St. James School of Medicine

unless things have changed over the past year, it doesnt make sense.

I agree with Scott

I spoke with the staff of NY when they came to inspect our school and they SPECIALLY mentioned that the approval list is just for CLINICALS. Residency and licensure are completely different, and no lists are maintained for those aspects. I haven't heard anything has changed since then.

I believe I was told they not all cores had to be green if on the approved list, I'm not positive about this because back then I didn't fully understand all the terms with ACGME, cores, electives, etc. Besides I would rather keep it all green.

Thank-you for everybody replying. Honestly, its a hard decision because I hear good things and bad things about each school. The thing, is every school has something different to offer.

When comparing schools....it's best to compare "apples to apples." All NY approved schools.....AUA/MUA and St.Matts. Now the latter two are owned by the same corp. Windsor is in the 3rd tier of schools...40% of our students are transfers from AUA,MUA,St.E, Ross...ect.. The rest are mostly from Canada or Midwest states such as IL, MI ect....

Not having loans limits the amount of students we get each year. But, not coming out of school with over 100K in loans also helps greatly. We do rotations in the same hospitals as other schools and have a good list of rotation sites so far.We have Profs that are as good as profs from other schools....A majority are indian (But not all) but the same can be said of other schools now days.

Keeping tution at 5K for Basic sciences and clinical s limits the marketing machine (Web site, school officials posting on VMD ect..) that Windsor has compared to other schools. But remember that Windsor has licensed Grads and most of the newer schools do not.

I think AUA is a fine school if you want to do clinical s in NY...but so is MUA.

If you have any questions, and want feed back from current Windsor students please post in the Windsor forum.

Assumptions

I don't think you have read the Windsor forum in quite sometime....Try reading the last two years...

By the way most of the transfers are from AUA.
