Cali Approval...

Let's say for instance I attend a school such as SMU, AUA, or MUA-Nevis starting next year, which at the moment do not have Cali approval. If in the next 5 years, they do get approved. Does that mean I can practice in Cali?

Thanks!

My understanding....

....and according to Pat Parks is that the school must be approved from the moment you enrolled. Check out with her. You will find her under school officials.

Pat Parks is associated with the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance; she is not a "school official".

And, unless things have changed very recently, recognition by California is retroactive UNLESS the school failed on a previous attempt at recognition. If they failed on previous attempts then recognition is only from the point of passing.

not true. saba got approved on their first attempt, but it was only retroactive to 2001 or 2002 (cant remember which one).

correction

You are absolutely correct but there were extenuating circumstances for Saba. I shall quote directly from the Site Team’s Final Inspection Report.
A survey of the Saba University School of Medicine on Saba was conducted on May 20-21, 2004.
The survey team is unanimous in recommending that the State of California recognize Saba University.
The survey team further recommends that the Division’s recognition extend only to those students who matriculate at Saba on or after January `1, 2002. It was abundantly clear to the survey team that at the time of the site visit, the school’s educational structure had been stable for approximately the last two years. Saba University had undergone considerable change in faculty and educational structure prior to 2002 and the survey team therefore cannot make any determination or recommendation regarding equivalency for that past time period.
The team recognizes that its second recommendation is a departure from past Division practices. However, the survey team feels strongly that it has no factual basis for recommending a different cut-off date for accepting applicants who received their M.D. degree from Saba.

actually what pat parks has said is that retroactivity is not guaranteed and it is only given up to the point where the above were determined..i e mainly stability in faculty, school, clinicals, etc. so most if not all newer carib schools don't really qualify because they are all unstable in faculty with high turnover and tend to have campus and owner ship issues

Point taken

Yes she is a state official. Rather than us discussing and trying to convince each other with our interpretations, the best thing to do is ask her directly, that will certainly end all speculation.
