no doubts

..."nothing to do with the quality of education." I certainly agree, especially when your text are in English, classes and clinicals in Spanish, it can get confusing, but the quality of the medical schools there are excellent. That the caveman that interviewed you had that chip on his shoulder, his loss not yours. It is never too late to pursue and achieve your dreams.

so far

There were some guilty pleas and some are awaiting trial. The Medical Board, Health Department and the College of Physicians and surgeons are finishing their proposals to overhaul the system. Nothing sure yet. Chances are they will get a USMLE version in Spanish, but one of the members of the College of Surgeons mentioned that it will add some hardship on most students because the cost of the USMLE is very high compared with the revalida. My opinion, if they want to continue doing the revalida they can contract an outside auditing company outside the Island to supervise the grading, etc.

I had my acceptance letter in hand , but we had 2 small children and my husband thought I should decline and apply for the following year at St. Louis Univ. School of medicine. It sounded reasonable, so I did (it was 1997). I was called for interview, until the assistand dean interviewed me and told me " Our passing rate for first time takers for usmle is 98%, from all of the LCME Usmle first time takers, the students from Puerto Rico have the lowest score, first time taker at 91%"(the comment came with not a good tone) .I repplyed to him I was a Medical Technologist and had no problem passing my boards but the guy proceeded to make more comments and made me feel like dirt, at the point I broke into tears, since I have never been subjected to a battery of denigration like that. Forgot about pursuing my life long dream until now, I am a third semester student at ROSS. I think students from Puerto Rico have more difficulty with the language, nothing to do with the quality of education. I had my college education in Puerto Rico and I learned so well, that 20 years later is still so helpfull for me and my GPA is really good right now.
Isn't it amazing how someone in a profession that is supposed to be kind, caring, and empathetic can say things like that!
It shouldn't be but sadly it does exist. You would think a person so accomplished would be emotionally secure enough as to not find the need to denigrate others.

Goes to show there are highly educated @-holes as well as uneducated ones.

So the system remains unchanged. You can take Revalida or USMLE.. The solution is to offer USMLE in spanish.

Side note: Wow! Jennifer Guevara (Miss Mundo) is outstanding!

The problem is that U.S. medical schools are not taught in those languages. What we have in Puerto Rico, are U.S. accredited medical schools that are taught in Spanish and or English. Hence, the USMLE should be offered to "U.S/Puerto Rican graduates that had a Spanish/English curriculum.

Perhaps there are U.S. medical schools that teach the curriculum in the languages you mentioned but I doubt it.
