PR is not a free country.
PR is a US colony. PR has a deficit budget, with the taxes only raising 13 percent of the total pool of money. The rest 87 percent comes from the US taxpayers. PR nationals are AWARDED, undeservedly the US PASSPORT. PR nationals use the US previliges without being qualified to do. PR doctors can practice at various prison,VA boards, and some states with the REVALIDA. USA cannot have 2 sets of rules, one for US and one for PR! AMA should constitute the USMLE as the one and only exam in PR.It has to be only in English as PR is US territory. If PR doctors want it in Spanish, we should also have the USMLE in Chinese, Hindi,Vietnamese,Philipino,Russian,French,Bengali, Urdu,Arabic,German, Irish,Slavic etc etc. |

I think that if the government will remove the "Revalida" then the USMLE should be available in Spanish. I also believe that after passing the test, you have proven your medical knowledge, Obviously to work in the US you must know English... I mean, to work anywhere you must be able to communicate with your patients!, read, write prescriptions, fill paperwork, ask for a caramel machiato with extra caramel, etc. well then ask for the TOEFL! or maybe an interview is enough to test English proficiency. I'm sure an interviewer will be able to judge wether an applicant's English is good enough for him or her to work at their hospital. There are so many hospitals desperately in need of bilingual doctors!... heck, trilingual, quatrilingual! the more the better! Does that seem like a logical approach to you? |

Presently, each State and or territory has its own laws on what is required for medical licensure. For the AMA or any other organization to mandate that the Puerto Rican government should do this or that will never happen! Puerto Rican legislators have to address the issues and get the laws changed. Outside interference will only bring further distancing. |

I agree, the USMLE should be offered in Spanish as well. |

Puerto Rico is a self governing unincorporated territory of the United States within a commonwealth status. It has a state constitution called Estado Libre Asociado de Puerto Rico. It is not a colony.

This is utterly ignorant, disrespectful, racist and not worth me commenting about. Shame on you. Why not? Puerto Rico is not like every other state, our main language is Spanish! this means eather the Revalida stays or a test must be available in Spanish. Quote:
Puerto Rico is US territory, but we are not slaves! We live in a democracy. Puerto Rico is culturaly a latin country, wether you like it, or not. We are not here to take orders from people like you but to reason and come to agreements, to find out what's best FOR BOTH. You are not the boss, the people are and guess what, we are as american as you are! And judging from your messed up values and racial prejudice I bet I'm ten times a better doctor than you are! Step down from your English pedestal, what are you afraid of? How would a Spanish USMLE harm the US health system and ultimately how would it harm our patients, aren't they your main concern? What kind of medicine do you practice!? Dear God -- Primum non nocere. |

Now in the survey after you take the USMLE they ask you in:

As I said
Standarization. Everyone should and must be treated equally. No special rules to anyone, and P.R. being a Territory it should be set in English. Following your line of thought, the USMLE should be offered in Spanish to Mexican and Latin Americans who wish to practice, lets say, Miami Florida, were almost everyone speaks Spanish?

Yes
Yes they did. Check endi.com lista de los 88 medicos implicados or something like that. There was a candidate who took the exams 16 times, and failed every time and ended up paying for her license and ended up in jail. Ha!
