i guess i got carib medicien in my blood now, as when applying to residencys, i also applied to PR (they are ACGME, just like the states, after all, the next referendum, they are expected to petition for statehood). i ended up not going on my interviews as i got so many offers from good programs in the states. but if you speak spanish, i would say apply, what have you got to lose? the 25 or 30 bucks to apply? big deal.

I wouldn't bet on statehood anytime soon.

Historically, 1/3 seem to be for independence, 1/3 for status quo, 1/3 for statehood.

Moreover, as the US is bitterly divided by partisanship and elections are as close to draws as possible, the addition of PR as as state is widely perceived as favoring the Democrats.
