Should I even bother applying to med school w/ a dui on my record?

I am in need of some advice. I would like to apply to med school next year, however I have a DUI on my record from several years ago when I first started college. I would otherwise be a competitive applicant, but I know that this past incident will hurt my application, I just don't know how much it would hurt me....
Does anyone know of someone in my situation being accepted into a US or even a foreign med school?
Even if I was accepted, could I even get a residency or a licence someday down the road

    Any advice would be appreciated

    Yes

Sometimes on a slow call night, people talk about lots of things in the lounge.
I know of three people with past minor DUIs who went to different Carib schools and went on without incident. One had two. One had their records sealed. I also knew a guy who (I think) was marginal who was turned down by every US school and AUC and St George's--or so he told me because of an old simple misdemeanor DUI; don't know what became of him. People can sometimes get into school despite all sorts of problems. Usually you have to supply all the old records and persuade the school to give you a chance. I read about a second year from U of Az (I think) who was busted for selling weed who collected enough recommendations to be reinstated. There was a guy at my school with an assault conviction although he didn't last and I don't think the school would do it again. I once rotated with an intern who got caught drinking on duty and didn't get fired (got sent to Tx though). If that is the only thing against you, it was clearly a stupid college student trick, and you have obviously matured since, then give it a shot; how else will you ever know?

    Yes

Absolutely. As the previous poster noted, there are many students who have been admitted with this on their record.

Fill out the application & send it in!

    Good Luck!
