Why Medicine?
Why do people choose to pursue a career in Medicine?
I believe it was Socrates who once said... "know thyself" I know I want to help people, in the best way that I can. And there are many people out there who would be glad to have someone helping who knows what they're doing. I really don't want to be the kind of doctor who turns away a patient at the door. But where does one find the balance between doing what you should for the world, and doing what is best for oneself? And where is the balance between self-sacrifice for the sake of others, and an independent spirit who values their own being and existence. I observe all these things in a hospital. There are many kinds of doctors in this world. Why do people become doctors? Do some people really just care about the money and the prestige alone? |
