Say these are your choices: Ross University, St. Georges, Going to school in Australia, or going to school in Ireland, which would you pick? Feel free to explain your reasons in this thread! |

I picked SGU
US clinical rotations, proven track record, an impresive residency match list (albeit from the perspective of an untrained eye) Based on what I've read and heard, it seems to offer one of the best opportunities for getting into a competitive residency program in the US THAT BEING SAID, I have heard that going to Australia or Ireland has less stigma associated with it, as those schools weren't initially setup to cater to rejected applicants from the US.... I've heard that the 'Carribbean' Stigma isn't as bad as it used to be though, although I've got no way of backing this up with any facts... |

Generally, when I first looked into this, and this has often been confirmed on other threads, and by personal discussions I've had on this subject since starting Med School, is that you will get stronger basic sciences training, especially in areas of cell bio, biochem, and genetics, in the Caribbean, and you will get stronger clinical skills training in Ireland and Australia. It was kind of a taste great/less filling dillema for me, but in the end, I decided to go Caribbean.

Also, the ability, if I wish, to do my clinicals in either England or Ireland, if down the line, I felt that it would be better for me (and my future patients) to be trained this way.

Caribbean schools cater towards people who want to practice in the states. most of their students are US citizens and they teach the same curriculum as US medical students and they teach you so you can pass the USMLEs. other countries teach their students to practice in their countries. Also there are a lot more US docs who went to caribbean schools and the education level of schools like Ross and SGU is very well known in the US. There are a lot more carib school graduates practicing in the US then there are irish or australian graduates. That's why i picked SGU because it's the best known carib medical school in the US.
