Based on what I've read and heard, it seems to offer one of the best opportunities for getting into a competitive residency program in the US

THAT BEING SAID, I have heard that going to Australia or Ireland has less stigma associated with it, as those schools weren't initially setup to cater to rejected applicants from the US....

I've heard that the 'Carribbean' Stigma isn't as bad as it used to be though, although I've got no way of backing this up with any facts...

Generally, and is only from the perspective of (I know nothing about anything that's really important because I am just a med student) point of view, word on the street that I found through researching this subject is that practicing medicine in the States is more technology based ( ordering lab tests and CT scans) while practicing medice outside the states is more clinical skills based, meaning that you will learn more about diagnosis that is less relient on technology and more relient on hundreds of years of clinical skills passed on from Physician to Physician if you are trained outside of the states. As I'm sure you can surmise, there are both advantages and disadvantages to learning through this approach.

I voted for SGU. The extra support services that SGU offers made the choice easy for me ie. access to tutors. The beauty and amenities of the campus also helped (I visited before sending in my deposit). It looks like SGU is investing alot of capital back into the school. Correct me if I am wrong but something like 40 new buildings in just over a decade.

First of all, if you want to practice in the US, it's advantageous to do your clinical rotations in the US. The style of medical education in the US is different from other countries such as Ireland and Australia, and you will not be as well prepared to work in a US hospital unless you do clinicals here. Also, you won't be able to make connections with programs that you are interested in if you are overseas. So a more ambitious student who wants a competitive residency will be frusterated. As for the difference between Ross and SGU (full disclosure, I go to SGU) I have heard from Ross student that they have had a little more difficulty getting clinical slots than SGU students--I think SGU may have better connections.
