wrong.
you get a limited license to practice within the framework of your residency program ONLY.

The state decides who it wants to license. They do not care about board certification. They can deny anybody they want.

I have a full unrestricted license to practice medicine in Michigan, so I know how it works both in terms of application, and in terms of board certification. The state doesn't even know my board status as far as I can tell.

EDIT : after reading the rest of the thread, I have come to the conclusion that the OP is a troll. A PA with 30 years of "been there and done that" that posts absolute rubbish. I vote troll.... either way, his info is incorrect

I don't know if "first do no harm" applies to PA's too, but better to post nothing than post something that will harm people.

I do love the whole bit where he ignores what people say about California, and seems oblivious to the fact that the freaking foreign medical schools liason to the State of California Medical licensing board actually posts on this forum and has been quite clear on the issue.

Last time I saw a character like that it was Baghdad Bob denying that US soldiers were in Baghdad, as the tanks rolled up behind him

It's funny how PA's, wanabe medical students, actually think they know more about licensures and board cert's than those here who are actually licensed and board certified. Some use direct insults, some quote literatures... but all dishing out garbage. Yes, Az's advice/posts may be harsh, but it's much better for honest, potential medical students to hear the harsh words of reality here than from the medical boards 4 years down the line.

Yes, I've come to the conclusion that jpryor is probably a troll. If he really is a PA, then I feel sorry for the docs who supervise him. He is probably the type that introduces himself as Dr. Pryor to his patients.

I post using my name, obviously. You indicate your location as Baltimore and cite Osler, so I'll assume you are connected with Johns Hopkins. So was I and I'll tell you how to prove it. But first, allow me this correction: I have stated, quite clearly, in previous posts that I am a Physician Assistant and have been since 1972
He also stated previously that he only had a year of college before shipping out to Vietnam, and was "grandfathered into PA with military experience." He also says he is planning on going to St. James in 04. So, my first question is, how do you apply to medical school with only a year of college? Ummm... although it's been a while since I wore a badge, something don't smell right here.

Also looked into Maryland's doc-finder. They list all licensees, including licenses issued back in the 70's that are now "inactive." No PA license under J. Pryor showed up. He lists his location as Florida. No licensed PA under the name J. Pryor either when I searched. It sure smells like we've just been driven through Kettleman on I-5.

You'll be glad to see that neilc isn't just learning medicine in Prague. Don't we know that it's always the sad little guy who only repeats the funny comment who gets the bigger laugh.

funny? wit?

oh, agnostic...if you truly thought that was funny...well, lets just say it isn't/wan't. that was not the point of the repetition.

i was simply demonstrating that while you seem to think that you have such valuable things to say, and you constantly try to belittle others, the truth is your statements are at least as useless (methinks far, far more useless than any others, but that is just one man's opionion) as those posts you critisize.

I used the word 'funny' when I wanted to use 'irony'.

It is obvious that you and azskeptic think that 'irony' is what people do to get the creases out of their clothes.
